Hans Zimmer's Top 10 Scores

I searched, and don't think it's been done. How can I let this pass now that we have ones for John, Jerry, and James?

A preliminary request for civility: let's not have this thread devolve into poo-slinging with people opining about Hans' boring, overblown, dumb, derivative, ghost-written, poorly-crafted, infantile music. Let's not pontificate about how inferior he is to Williams because of his pop background, and how he's ruined film music forever with his catchy stylings that filmmakers love to push for and composers can easily imitate. This is a safe space for anyone and everyone to speak positively about the man's music, without fear of such absurdities.

I'll not be treating this as formally as Uni - just list your top 10, and discuss. If it seems like there's a strong consensus though, or otherwise interesting results, I'll count up the most popular and then make a poll with them where we can see which wins out overall.

1) Interstellar

2) Inception

3) The Thin Red Line

4) Angels & Demons

5) The Last Samurai

6) The Da Vinci Code

7) Rain Man

8) The Lion King

9) Gladiator

10) Crimson Tide

I'd like to add more from the 80's/90's to this list, but none of those scores have grown on me enough, or I haven't given them enough time to. I'll be watching closely (particularly Koray) to see which I should focus some time on.

Umm . . . what's left to discuss, then. . . ?

Kidding . . . I'm kidding, man. :P

GAME: I have singled out one beautiful but neglected little score, and the first person to list it as a favorite will win a special prize for fine taste!

There's too many of those in his career to list! What kind of score is it?

Some of these scores listed are collaborative efforts but what the hey.

1. The Dark Knight

2. Inception
3. Kung Fu Panda/Kung Fu Panda 2
4. Sherlock Holmes

5. Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

6. Interstellar
7. The Da Vinci Code
8. The Rock
9. The Lion King
10. Gladiator

Honorable mention to the track "Tennessee" from Pearl Harbor which, while great, alone can't justify me putting that score into the top 10.

It is understood that Zimmer's process is often collaborative - therefore, for such a thread, it is practical to not even take that into consideration any more than you would in a "Top 10 Pink Floyd Songs" thread by worrying about whether or not Roger or David wrote something.

5) Angels and Demons

6) Prince of Egypt

7) Gladiator

8) Frost/Nixon

9) Radio Flyer

10) The Peacemaker

So it's more the Hans Zimmer Ragtime Band rather than just Hans Zimmer.

I'd have wanted to make Danny Elfman next... Unless that's been done already?

Please limit discussion to the thread topic.

. . . says the guy who suggested doing another John Williams poll in the Jerry Goldsmith thread.

The movie itself was a let down but I especially liked the mermaid sections of the score.

Anyone who listed The Peacemaker, care to provide some commentary about it? I'm unfamiliar.

It's cut from the same cloth as The Rock, Crimson Tide, Drop Zone, and Face/Off.

I also love the Kung Fu Panda scores, but I didn't include them because I question how many of the themes in those are actually Zimmer's.

Nice to see King Arthur mentioned. It's really pretty solid and fun, isn't it? Budget Meeting is ridiculous.

Then rename it "Remote Control's Top 10 Scores", as you do it with "Top 10 Pink Floyd Songs" instead of "Roger's Top 10 Songs".

No, "Hans Zimmer" is effectively the band name.

Additionally, get bent.
