I added a USB DAC & headphone amp to my audio set up last week. It's really helped in terms of listening to music on the computer. Not having to reply on my PCs soundcard and all the buzzing/interference that came with that.

Has anyone else used USB DACs and what difference did you notice?

I used a super cheap USB DAC due to noise issues with the internal sound.

I went for the Cyrus Soundkey. Noticed a nice improvement in overal quality and detail from my PC and phone.

Interesting! I don't use a USB DAC for my other PCs where there's no noise issues with the internal sound card, but perhaps I should do a comparison of the overall quality with and without the DAC.

Bose is all T&A. You need something with more "body".

The Bose Cinemate 2.1 thingy is good for an average loungeroom. Shame it's so rare and hard to find now.

But now you can connect two pair of speakers and switch from speakers 'A' to speakers 'B'. That's what audiophiles love to do, compare stuff to see what's best.

And yet, you are about to buy a 1000 Euro Hi-Fi system. It could be the beginning of a long journey. Next thing you know you want new speakers.

Deja vu... ;)

These were the B&W speakers I had. Yes, they were bullet proof.

Not too long ago I wanted to buy this vintage CD player:

I loved the design and especially those buttons! But then I thought to myself, when a CD player is that old, you're asking for problems, so I didn't go through with it.

What happened to it?

I sold it foolishly when I purchased my first Laserdisc player.

Fortunately I picked up a NAD 5420 for pocket change a few years ago:

It's a bit flimsy but has a beautiful delicate sound with an "inky black" noise floor (Hi-Fi Choice's words).

It complements my Musical Fidelity B200 and Linn Kan's wonderfully (these are pics from the internet - my stuff is in storage @Jurassic Shark) LOL

Oh and my Kan's are white - painted 'em myself ;)

My champagne Pioneer CLD-99 is also quite pretty in a retro way :)

My NAD player is 30 years old yet it works perfectly. The only snag is occasionally the disc tray won't open or close but it's usually a quick fix.

I'm considering to get the Marantz CD6006 and PM6006. Discuss!

Oddly enough, I'm considering buy the very same items.

Marantz has always had a "sharp", upfront sound, rather than a laidback sound.

What to partner it with?

I've been ticking makes of speakers off, mentally.

Monitor Audio...not really

Mission...no

KEF...possibly

Cyrus...hmm

AE...probably not

Meridian...no

Spendor...hmm no

Linn...no

B&W...seems the likeliest possibility.

They say the B&W PM1 speakers sound very good. Somebody not that far from me is selling them for 1400 Euro (stands included), which is quite a bargain.
