In the video, Horn says that a lot of the cast is in place, but not all. Obviously no one knows what that means yet. We're all anxiously awaiting a casting announcement.

Here it is:

New Comer

Fresh Face

Big Promise

Fresh Face Jr.

John Doe

Jane Doe

Harrison Ford

Fresh Face Sr.

Mr. Nobody

Mark Hamill

Debutant

Miss Nobody

Carrie Fisher

Anthony Daniels

Peter Mayhew

Fresh Face Sr. is too old for the role.

Fresh Face Sr.: "I am your true Uncle Owen, Luke!"

Mark Hamill: "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

The more time passes, the more I get the feeling that they're holding any and all major casting announcements until May 4th, which makes me hate that stupid pun-holiday even more.

I blame the secrecy on Abrams' Mystery Box persona, and him wanting to keep everything secret. (Kathleen Kennedy should've slapped some sense into him when he signed on for this.) How about he tells us who's cast in Episode VII, but he doesn't have to tell us who they're playing? I'd be fine with that.

A big finger to all those fans who bought all their books. They killed off Chewie in those. So much for respecting wallets that are feeding the company. ;)

Ah, well.

Or not, given they said this wasn't going to be based off any existing material.

Yep, and Khan definitely is not in it.

They look nothing like the actors right now, though. ;)

Karol

though the final version has a more closeness to what harrison looks like now.

I still can't believe how many books they released, how many people bought them and treated as real thing. And how many trees died for nothing.

There is no curse in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of Men to condemn this treachery! ;)

Given the source, the Chewbacca information is a pretty good bet (also, a few weeks ago it came out that Mayhew had to back out of conventions he had scheduled for this summer due to "filming" - not too much of a filming career for that guy outside of those four movies), but I'm leary of anything until it's officially reported by StarWars.com or a Lucasfilm rep.

I wouldn't expect any of the major players in the post-ROTJ mythology to appear - Jacen, Jaina, Anakin, Ben,Mara Jade, etc - at least not in the same capacity/characterization as the novels - and nobody has indicated that they would. As such, it's reasonable to assume that the events that led up to Chewie being smashed by a moon in Vector Prime would not have happened in the film chronology.

I'm glad they're leaving behind the previously existing source material. I'm making my way reading through it all now (in order of release), and while the stuff is okay as far as books go, there isn't much that would be effective as a movie. Also, I wouldn't want to go into the new Episodes knowing all or most of what was going to happen.

There's precedent for it anyway - Lucas cherrypicked ideas/events/names from the books and used them in the prequels and Clone Wars; there was other info that was completely contradicted, altered, discarded, etc. The hardline from Lucasfilm even before the Disney purchase was that the "true" canon was what you saw on film - the movies and the Clone Wars series. The books, comics, video games, etc all fall within their own canon separate from the movies. If you love the books (as I do with some), these movies won't make the books disappear. They'll remain in the same subcanon they've always been considered.

I would think that Star Wars enthusiasts would enjoy the direction of disregarding the EU since there are surprises to be had. Do you really want them to make a Star Wars series based on old crappy third rate novels?

Enthusiasts who have grown up with the EU in books, comics, and games will just have to accept that it all basically now represents the same type of fictional parallel universe that Star Trek fiction has occupied for a lot longer. Star Trek novels and comics have never been considered as canon by the shows and movies, but this has never stopped fans from buying them or authors from making their living. It's not going to be the end of the world for new Star Wars footage to push off into untold stories, and it could be exciting. Nobody is going to make all your Zahn novels and Dark Horse comics turn into blank sheets after all.

I'm really glad that Back to the Future didn't follow the rules for time travel established one year earlier by The Terminator: one way only and naked.

I still hope they make the cut after the Thrawn trilogy which introduced Mara Jade and the Skywalker twins. Those were the best EU books apart from the equally amazing Han Solo novels.

Well it definately is an opportunity to fix mistakes. If killing chewie got an uproar, then they can fix that.

etc etc.

Lets just hope they dont make new mistakes or repeat old ones with another name or situation...

i mean dont resurrect chewbacca and then kill him on screen in a different manner...

Being Abrams, perhaps, Chewie will be killed in the opening scene on the bridge of a ship whilst allowing newborn twins Jacen & Jaina to escape their wounded ship.

But seriously, hopefully and probably Chewie's here to stay.

Is that Rhea Perlman on the right?

Who's playing Yoda's dad?

Dick Cheney.

I'm sure porn parody would follow at least one of these rules.
