90 piece orchestra only?

Didnt the other scores use a 120 piece orchestra?

:(

90-piece is definitely a BIG orchestra and it's absolutely within the range of previous Star Wars scores, which were always 85 to 90 elements. I think it surpassed 100 only when extra percussion and/or choir were included in the count.

The prequels certainly exceeded 85-90, especially by ROTS when the brass and woodwinds were beefed up quite a bit.

For this, you've got 12 woodwinds, I think 15 brass, 5 percussion, Randy and probably at least one other keyboardist, at least one harp. That's 35 right there, strings are usually 60 chairs (he might prefer less (50) for these scores which would explain things), so....

Of course, this is a combined orchestra so who knows!

Yeah it needs trimmed down to a manageable 15 minutes.

I'm seriously thinking that the Gremlins OST might be one of my favourite film score soundtrack album presentations.

That David Geffen really knew how to push composers beyond the limits of what they thought possible in shorter soundtrack duration.

You need to place restrictions on the artist for best results.

The composer began work last December and basically continued all year, completing the recording in mid-November. His 90-piece orchestra recorded 175 minutes of music, he says, although nearly an hour of that was discarded, modified or rerecorded as Abrams re-edited the film. Snoke’s theme was recorded by a 24-voice men’s chorus.

So, if the OST is at best around 75 minutes long, it'll mean there'll be 100 minutes of unreleased music.

I'm deeply sorry, KM.

Well holy moly!

I think this is a bit akin to Tintin where Williams had early recording sessions and later revised and modified material to suit the finished film.

I'll keep myself fit and in good condition so I can experience the 3 disc release of this score around 2050.

Again I don't really see the huge surprise about this amount of recorded music and the 2 hours+ in the film and the 70 minute+ OST album. It happens every time when a Star Wars score is released and we react to it as it were a huge surprise every single time.
