Damn this sound great so far, glad to see RDJ pursuing his career

He might have been a better pick to play Oppie

Neither did I! I was just happy to be there. I think.

Matthew Modine is a good actor but he always makes me think of the single best Jiminy Glick segment, his interview with Nathan Lane, when he lists his children "my four wonderful boys: Morgan, Mason, Matthew, and Modine, the twins"Β

Did we get so bored of the constant casting announcements?

Β

Because nobody even noticed that Gary fucking Oldman had been recruited.

Haven't we agreed on just mentioning it when an actor or actrice doesn't join the cast...

Β

Just kiddin', he's my favourite actor. Very exciting!

And Safin, and Green Goblin, and Scarecrow. And remarkable Dr Mann!

Yes, but the photo ... It seems Nolan doesn't care for authenticity.Β Nolan's Oppenheimer is holding his cigarette in the right corner while the real one was holding it in the left corner.Β

Is it really " culturally appropriate" to have an Irish- Catholic play a Jewish- American?

Yeah, you're probably right. For all its awful script, at the very least TDKR is "watchable". Tenet is so unnecessarily complicated and bloated, it makes trying to watch it a horrible experience.

I always found the "hire the best person for the job" counterpoint laughable, since it gives the inherent implication that studios literally hire schmucks from the street if they simply just want someone who ticks a particular box (while also having the unfortunate implication that one can't find talent within the allegedly flimsy criteria).

Β

Since people grow by having experience on projects: what's the issue with giving them just that? The industry will keep favoring a very specific type anyway, so it's not like we're gonna suddenly be flooded with mostly work in progress minority talent trying to figure things out. Let them develop and find something that'll captivate audiences. You can always not watch it if the issue is that it's now not as easy to ignore as it would've been in the "good olden days."

Detecting textual sarcasm was never my strong suit :flush:

Β

Of course, there's definitely a point to be said about ensuring that films still get their due critiques, since some will defend a thing purely for its significance and ignore the legit shortcomings. A little hard in the day and age where some subjects get muddled in a lot of misguided discourse, but it's always good to look for the meaningful feedback that'll ensure one's growth in their craft.

I thought you guys love a good James Bond movie? Sure, Tenet doesn't have the humor, but that makes it so Nolan.Β

TENET was godawful!

But, DUNKIRK is a flat out cinematic masterpiece!

Go figure?
