Disco Stu 15,517 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Yes, a director who is very famous for bloated self-indulgence making a film well under 2 hours is very significant.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,205 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Very, actually. Of this is indeed a film with a low amount of dialogue and an efficient running time.
mrbellamy 8,079 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Yeah, I just find it encouraging insofar as it's another indication - along with him name-dropping Bresson in that earlier interview - that he might be trying to say more with less.
nightscape94 968 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Until we get the extended extra-special unrated edition on blu ray clocking in at 3 hours.
Disco Stu 15,517 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Has Nolan ever put out alternate cuts of his films before? He's never had less than full creative control to my knowledge, so why would he have to?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,205 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Its clear he has learned from his obvious failure of Interstellar to communicate to the audience. And he's addressed the glaring shortcomings his previous works have shown. Right, TGP?

It's apparently increasingly rare for directors to get final cut privilege at studios these days but I can't imagine Nolan hadn't secured it in his contract by Inception at the latest.

A24 5,123 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Looking forward to the scoreless battle scenes (a la SPR).
A24 5,123 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Film journalists say it's incredible. It's not about dialog (there isn't much of it) or characters but it's an experience movie.
crocodile 9,637 Posted July 11, 2017 Author Posted July 11, 2017 So Nolan has made the best film ever...for the 10th time in his career. Karol
A24 5,123 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 What is more interesting is that he did it by not being Nolan. Alex
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,205 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Doesnt that remain to be seen? Will you watch this in the cinema, Alex?
A24 5,123 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 No, I want to 'experience' it so I'm gonna watch it at home.
crocodile 9,637 Posted July 22, 2017 Author Posted July 22, 2017 Behold! The voice of the god himself talking about the creation. Karol

Like I said so many times before (why don't people listen to each other?), ever since the rise of the huge concrete multiplexes, theatrical film projection sucks in Belgium. As a result, I prefer to watch movies on my Plasma screen. I want color, sharpness and contrast! I think I deserve it! Though I admit I haven't checked out the local IMAX room for ages.
Disco Stu 15,517 Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Heh heh This is a fun parody account if you're a Simpsons fan
crocodile 9,637 Posted May 4, 2018 Author Posted May 4, 2018 Our dear Lord and Celluloid Savior is restoring Kubrick's 2001 for 70mm cinema release. Although "un-restoring" would perhaps be a more apt description. Karol

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,205 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 The Dolby Atmos track will be amazing. Very immersive.

John 2,034 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 For those who haven’t seen it, here’s a comparison video between the 2007 Blu-ray release of 2001 and the new Nolan “restoration”: It looks like they ran the film through a bad Instagram filter. If this is indeed how the “restored” version appears, I doubt Kubrick would approve of it.
Holko 12,021 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Good fucking lord. Anyone who works on something like this should be forbidden to go near any old archived film strips again. Even their own, yes, Jim Cameron, looking at your new green skin colors.
Jurassic Shark 16,369 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 It's unrestored, not restored. The objective was to present the colors faithfully as they were in 1968 - not make them look like what you'd consider "normal" today.
Holko 12,021 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 I very much doubt the 1968 colours were adhering to the very modern and ugly orange and teal colour scheme. Somehow the Kubrick-supervised Criterion transfer doesn't look like someone literally pissed all over it. Him being an infamous perfectionist who probably wouldn't change his mind at any whim of stupid modern trends, I think that says something. Sharkissimo 1
