Harry Potter - Live to Projection Concerts

The reason that there has not been a "proper" release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, for instance - assuming that complete and chronological is everybody's idea of "proper" -  has nothing to do with "them" not knowing how.

The specialty labels would love to release all the scores we want properly, its the original studios (in this case Warner Brothers) that prevent the releases (by not granting the specialty labels a license to do so)

That's most likely the case, but it's hard to maintain patience with, or an interest in, the rules of an industry that never seems straightforward. For me, a chronological release is a proper release. I know it's not a valid comparison, but I was raised with calssical music. Have you ever heard of Vivaldi's Four Seasons being released without the second movement of summer or with Winter moved to the beginning because some studio didn't like its original placement? I understand that composers have their own ideas and wishes regarding presentations. I don't understand the use of licence fees at all, and if they were the reason we didn't get things the way we wanted, why did we get the Star Wars Episode I limited edition with all its problems? I should have studied Marketing...

The Episode 1 release is fucked up because Sony tried to do it themselves (and extremely quickly), instead of hiring a competent album producer with experience working on complete soundtrack releases.  If they had hired Mike Matessino for example and let him program the whole set, it would have been complete and chronological without the horrid film edits.

The product is only as good as who you hire to oversee it, and what material they are given access to to use.

Just compare what Mike Matessino did with 1941, Empire of the Sun, and A.I. Artificial Intelligence compared to what Didier Deutsch did with Hook or Laurent Bouzereau did with CE3K, ET, and the Indy trilogy....

Still no Chicago? :(

Potter 1 will be the most interesting of all the Williams live-to-projection concerts announced so far, IMO.

Is there a list somewhere of all dates/cities for this, and the other live-to-projection concerts? It's getting difficult to keep track of them all!

I just found this page, which seems pretty comprehensive

The premiere performance in Philly tonight was brilliant!  Loved it; my first live to projection of a full movie.  They're doing Chamber of Secrets next summer!

I'm very jealous you got to go; If we hadn't just bought a house I would have planned on attending myself.

Did they restore any unused music, like when they're in the dark forest?

Honestly Jay, I'm not sure.  I wasn't really analyzing the score in that way, I was too wrapped up in the whole event!

Was there an intermission?

If so, do you remember if Williams wrote any new music for the end of the first act (to lead into intermission), and/or any new music at the end of intermission to lead into the 2nd act?

Yes there was an intermission, it occurred after the troll scene.  There was bit of outro music to get us into intermission and intro music to get us back into the film.  Sounded new to me, some type of variation on Hegwig's theme.

The concert arrangement of Hegwig's theme at the very end of the credits did not have the false ending.

I just noticed that the orchestra of my home town Oulu Sinfonia is performing the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Live to Projection in March 2017. There will be two performances on 2nd and 3rd of March 2017.

Here for the relevant info for everyone and especially those few fellow Finns that frequent the MB.

Needless to say I'll be there! :)

Why does this tour not even have its own website? Dumb.

Actually, it does, although I didn't know that until just now:

I'm pretty sure that didn't exist a couple of weeks ago... glad it does now.  But man those aren't a lot of dates!

the link about the Munich concerts is wrong as it is redirecting to some concerts in USA.

By the way, does anybody know if in Munich the film will have original language or a German dubbed one?

Thanks.

I can't imagine anywhere here would know the answer to that question.  I'd call the venue.

In Stuttgart it is shown in German: http://www.stuttgartkonzert.de/veranstaltungen/Harry_Potter-752.html

They also show Jurassic Park in English with German subtitle in December.

In Lucerne its english with German subtitles. I just bought 2 tickets for the premiere :)  Lucerne is farther away from me than Stuttgart, but I do not know the hall and orchestra in Stuttgart, and both are excellent in Lucerne.

Did anyone manage to buy tickets for the Harry Potter concerts in London next May?  They went on sale on Friday but by the time I got back from work all but the most expensive seats had already sold out, even with an extra concert added to cope with demand.  I cannot justify spending £200+ on a ticket, for which price I would expect nothing less than a private audience with John Williams himself and opportunity for a no make-up selfie with the great man.

I am guessing they will release gallery tickets nearer the time and that there will also be returns available so am not losing sleep over it.

Oh. 'De sossen' means the socialists, currently in opposition. Some people blame them for absolutely everything that went wrong over the past 90 years. De Wever is the leader of the party currently in power, who in turn gets blamed by the socialist for everything that's imperfect about Belgium.
