Two More Bond Films for Daniel Craig?

The guy's gonna be 50 by the time the next Bond is being filmed.  Too old!  You've had your moment in the spotlight, Craig. You're outta here!

And yes, Roger Moore is my favorite Bond so I should be ok with this, but even I admit that by those last 3 movies Moore was waaaay too old.

Disagree!  His head's only getting more lumpy and misshapen as he ages!

I'm being silly, but I really do think it's a time to get back to a Bond in his mid-to-late 30s. Also, it just feels like time for a new one.

I dunno. I like the idea of an older, seasoned Bond. We've gotten glimpses of that in the last two films. It's an idea that I think would work really great in particular with this Bond, with him having to play off of the much younger Q and what not.

On the other hand, they don't even really need to mention it at all. Craig is still kicking ass as is.

DAD is almost 14 years old.

The world has gotten so much more angry, and violent, since then, and popular cinema has responded likewise.

Brosnan was fit for his time, but a post 9/11 world seems to need fitter, faster, angrier, stronger action men, and women.

I keep seeing people mention Michael Fassbender as a potential replacement.  He's for sure one of the most talented actors currently working, but I feel like he's more cut out to play a Bond villain than Bond himself.  He's a little too good at playing inhumanly cruel (12 Years a Slave) or just plain inhuman (Prometheus).

We've had an Australian Bond. But nationality doesn't concern me really. I bet some Americans are mad at a British Batman, British Superman, British Spiderman. And one of the most iconic American characters on TV; House, is of course as English as you can get.

Also main LOTR cast of Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, all Americans. All pulled off English perfectly well.

Only 3 Bonds of the 6 Bonds have been English:

Sean Connery is Scottish.

George Lazenby is Australian

Roger Moore is English

Timothy Dalton is English

Pierce Brosnan is Irish

Daniel Craig is English.

Timothy Dalton is Welsh. He was born in Colwyn Bay.

The Brosnan films had a lot more of that then the Craig ones though. QoS excepted maybe.

I understand, but it's the general attitude of modern action films that really chap my arse. It's as if they constantly have to outdo each other in how buildings/nations/cities/people-take your pick- can be destroyed. If Chris Reeve's Superman came back now and tried to turn back the world to make it better, he'd be laughed out of his tights.

My opinion of the Brosnan Bonds:

Goldeneye: Great Bond film!

TND: Great action film!

TWINE: Has all the right elements to make a great Bond film,  but somehow, something is missing. I can't put my finger on it.

DAD: Garbage.

The Goldeneye score is definitely guilty pleasure of mine.

The pleasure is all mine.

Why guilty? Goldenye's a terrific score, full of unusual colours. David Arnold would have ruined the film with his obviousness.

Yeah, I agree completely with this.

GoldenEye is just an outstanding film. The direction, acting and writing is all great. It has a real classic feel to it.

TND is a very enjoyable watch too even if it does get a little too action heavy in the second half.

I think the problem with TWINE is that everything is so mediocre - the villain, the action, Denise Richards' character, the plot...it's all so bland and uninspired.

I've always felt that Brosnan was  burdened by bad scripts especially his final two films. He can easily pull off the gritty realism that was seen in the Craig movies, and you see a lot of that in GoldenEye and parts of TND (Dr. Kaufmann in the hotel).

I think if his final two movies continued the tone established in GoldenEye his era would be much more fondly remembered.

...and yeah, DaD is absolute garbage. It's like a bad piece of fanfic. I rewatch the Bond series every few years and I can barely bring myself to watch it. Honestly, Brosnan deserved a much better end.

GoldenEye: terrific!

TND: not bad, but loses my interest in the second half.

TWINE: too long, convoluted, has a weird feel to it, even though all the right ingredients are there.

DAD: this is always a guilty pleasure for me. Hard to believe it exists in the same universe as its predecessors, but it's good for a laugh.

GoldenEye: The second best Bond film of the last 25 years. Superior to Casino Royale

Tomorrow Never Dies: Generic Bruckenheimer-lite action film with a few witty lines and the late great Vincent Schiavelli

The World Is Not Enough: The Bold and the Beautiful as directed by Renny Harlin. Pure garbage.

Die Another Day: An entertaining mess

Die Another Day by far the worst Bond film, largely because the director didn't understand what a James Bond movie is supposed to be. Simply awful. Not a single second is redeemable.

The second worst Bond film is Quantum of Solace, for similar reasons. A little creative editing and CGI and I'd be happy to see this one retconned as a Bourne movie, which is what it's trying to be. A slick, brutal mess.

A View to a Kill is the third worst Bond film because...well, yeah.

There are other clunkers in the series, of course, but these ones stand out. But Die Another Day is in a class of its own.

The scenes in Cuba before Halle Berry arrives are fine, as is most of the North Korea stuff in pre/post-titles.

You're right, I'll concede some of the Cuba stuff is OK...not great, but not unwatchable. But the North Korea stuff is simply awful, and is good example of what I meant when I said the film represents a complete misunderstanding of what a Bond film is supposed to be.  Somehow Tamahori thought you could start a with Bond being captured, tortured and rejected by M, end with him iceberg surfing and driving an invisible Aston Martin, throw in some gadgets in between and call it a Bond film. Never mind that it's tonally inconsistent, it never at any point feels like you're actually watching a Bond film.

I'm not saying you can't push the limits of the formula. Skyfall did this nicely and in my opinion that movie ranks as among the best Bond films, and is arguably the best Bond film ever in terms of pure cinema. Skyfall is not just a great Bond film but a great film period.

Die Another Day is just an ugly, uninspired mess. And since this is a film music site, I'll just add that the less said about Arnold's score the better.
