crumbs 14,306
Wonder if they regret aborting the Boyle version and pushing things back right now? Seems to be stuck in an endless cycle of delays. I don't really understand their endgame here; each delay just adds to their mounting losses and makes turning a profit that much harder. Moving forward they should probably re-evaluate the ballooning budgets being sunk into these films. Are they even viable post-COVID? A new actor playing the lead seems like a good opportunity to hit the reset button and go the Casino Royale route. Jay 37,336
Yes, whatever "upcoming" phones and cars and whatever else they had on set when this was filmed in 2019 are all surely out by now. Back in January there were articles about them having to spend millions of dollars to get newer products in the film instead, but it's unclear if that actually happened or not. If it gets delayed to 2022 they will probably have to do that again, if they already did it...

crumbs 14,306
Not strictly NTTD related, but interesting Bond news. Martin Campbell has seemingly thrown his hat into the ring to direct the next film, despite previously only being interested in returning to the franchise to direct Casino Royale. One person who will happily help the pair out is Martin Campbell. The filmmaker helped launch Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig’s tenures with “Goldeneye” and “Casino Royale” respectively – delivering two of the best films in the franchise in the process. Out doing promotional rounds for “The Protege” this week,” Campbell was asked by Collider if he would consider returning to direct the next film. He seems keen and obviously gets along well with the producers: “Oh yeah, I would certainly consider it. I enjoy doing Bond. And also, the two producers are great to work with. You’re pretty much given a free hand to – everybody obviously participates in the script, and Casino I had Paul Haggis who did a terrific job with the script. He did the final draft. But the two producers are great to work with, and they don’t interfere at all if they think you’re on the right track, and everything else they just let you get on with it. They support you all the way. It’s an enjoyable experience.” WampaRat
WampaRat 1,105
Fascinating. Seems He’s only interested in introducing the new Bonds. I think he’s a great director when given the right material. (The Mask of Zorro is probably my all time favorite Martin Campbell directed film. Odd that it’s sequel, also directed by Cambell, was such a let down) But I digress. Craig’s last bond film may never ever get released.

Yeah it really feels like they've been sitting on their hands for two years now and not being proactive about casting, directing or writing for the next film. They've had plenty of time to write and polish an entire script since the original release date for NTTD. The directing choice is super obvious. Casting will be the hardest part, but it's not like they haven't had time to do their research.

Anthony 572
Skyfall: "I’m frightened because our enemies are no longer known to us. Tallguy 3,381
The first Craig movie (and by extension the second) lean on him being green and untested. Then the subsequent three move back into "You're and old man, Bond. It's time to move out of the way!" The interesting thing about the Craig era is that it has lasted so LONG. He hasn't made nearly as many movies but he's been the longest serving Bond ever. Does Bond end with the Broccoli's? I mean I guess Barbara is only 61. I just wonder what the direction will be once Craig shuffles off. People wondered if Bond was out of step when BROSNAN picked up the PPK. Sweeping Strings 2,351
It was a good idea to make him considerably younger and geekier, 'cause that's how tech wizards tend to be nowadays. Naïve Old Fart 9,511
Exactly. It's still there, but it's not as obvious as Desmond Llewellyn. That being said, Q did say "I really hate you, right now", in SPECTRE What I like about all the Qs - from Burton to Wishaw, and beyond - is that, although there is an antagonistic relationship, Q genuinely holds Bond in high regard. Nick1Ø66 4,709
Anyone else hoping they'll kill off Bond? Not that he wouldn't be rebooted of course. But it would be nice to put a bow on this era and finally have a death scene for Bond. I wouldn't be surprised if Craig, as an actor, really wanted one. I mean, I know it's unlikely, they want to keep up the fiction that these films are one continuity, and I doubt they'd have the courage anyway. But it's something I'd personally like to see. blondheim
Sweeping Strings 2,351
I kinda appreciated the fact that the series had ran for 40 years with its own (admittedly fairly loose) continuity before they rebooted with Craig, and am not overly keen on the idea of it now happening with each new lead actor or whatever. I never struggled with the idea that the world around Bond ages, but he himself only does so from 35-50 (roughly) and then loops back around ... but some clearly do, giving rise to the irritating 'James Bond is a codename given to whoever is MI6's most effective operative at the time' theory (which ignores both Skyfall making it clear that Bond is the FAMILY name and what I like to call 'the Tracy evidence'). Nick1Ø66 4,709
It's hard for me to imagine the next Bond picking up any of the Craig continuity, that version of Bond is so closely tied with Daniel Craig that it's just hard to imagine. Plus they've sort of painted Bond into a corner at this point. It's hard to see where that Bond goes from here, which is why I thought they might kill him off. Or at least retire him to some island somewhere. Whatever they do with the next one, I hope we don't get another origin story. I don't need to see how Bond got his 007 status. Give me a Bond who's already an experienced and ruthless operative and I'll be happy. Agree that the "codename" theory is idiotic.
