after all of those accursed comments on YouTube saying that one piece by Kevin Kiner is better than all of TFA (you know the one) this was certainly a breath of fresh air, good to see people referring to RFR's Star Wars Oxygen as well.

TFA's score gets tons of praise. YouTube comments are extremely complimentary, there are a lot of fan covers, tons of YouTube plays of the official soundtrack videos, etc. The score is well loved.

If you want to believe people are down on it, there are more than enough social media posts and negative youtube comments to support that view. But that's not the immediate impression I get from what I've seen. I think you almost have to go looking for negativity or ignore all the praise to support the idea that the score is generally disliked.

I frequent Star Wars sub-reddits and friends have said that the Force Awakens score was underwhelming, blaming the Los Angles Orchestra because 'John Williams can do no wrong'. I stand by my initial belief that this score would be a grower and from what I've seen at least that seems to be true, while some more musically inclined people appreciated it from the get-go it seems like its slowly awakening (heh) in the general movie-going audience.

EDIT: obviously my experience doesn't define everyone's perception but from what I've seen there certainly is some negativity with this score being detached from the OT and even the prequels in how its regarded.
