Popular Post Maurizio 6,561 Posted April 19, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 19, 2016 Nice recollection about TFA sessions: http://www.jenniflute.com/news/star-wars-the-force-awakens/ Once, Jacck, Loert and 3 others 6
Incanus 5,883 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 That was a lovely little reminiscence. Thanks for sharing this Maurizio! I wonder if she is the one playing the haunting flute solo in The Scavenger, one of the most magical moments of the entire score.
Richard P 5,007 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Suitably gushing, but a nice article. It seems JJ has a similar relationship with music as Spielberg does - with so much respect for the composer and the music. Seems rare these days. But putting a black blanket over the projector screen? That feels excessive. Unfortunately, when you combine Disney needing to capitalise on SW, and JJ being famously secretive about virtually everything, it's not surprising. It feels very arrogant of the studio.

Well they deleted all the footage the 60 Minutes host took on his phone at the sessions and kept everything under very tight wraps before the release so the secrecy extended to everybody. It seems excessive but that was the only way they managed to keep the film mostly a secret before the premiere and it also helped to raise the pre-release hype. Undoubtedly this thing being a JJ prduction and the new trilogy kick-off added further secrecy to the equation.
Popular Post crumbs 15,808 Posted April 19, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 19, 2016 Quote The most amazing thing I have ever heard a director say to a composer was when JJ Abrams said to John ‘don’t worry, we’ll make the film work.’ By micro-editing notes from the music all over the place! Not without some serious overtime for the film editors, and probably visual effects department! The days of E.T.'s final reel are long gone, which is almost contradictory to the ease of digital editing in the modern age.

crocodile 9,430 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 And all Star Wars scores were tinkered with quite a lot. Even the very first one. Karol

Like a zen-master of music making wisdom. Flutes! Play or do not play! There is no try! Jacck 1

What's funny is that a good portion of the film was leaked and known prior to the release. They didn't do a very good job with avoid leaks. Even the rumors about Luke turned out to be true. It seems only the score wasn't leaked ahead of time aside from the 60 minutes piece, teaser and the AMA clip.
