The Score Cleaner 9,292 Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 I have never air conducted, though I have air trombone/violin/percussion what have you.
gkgyver 1,647 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 What does "air conducting" mean anyway? Where else would you conduct if not in the air, underwater?
KK 3,310 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Yes, I hope you've acquired more economy of motion in your conducting if you want to be accepted by me! Since I am new to this board, but not new at all to the LotR discussion, I should probably establish my credentials, eh?http://tinypic.com/r/e6zs4w/5http://tinypic.com/r/2aan6ah/5http://tinypic.com/r/29w0pz5/5Yeah, I'm that kind of fan! (These videos are over six years old...I have since improved my conducting skills! I still crack up watching myself...) KK, GK, Jim Ware and Incanus can also vouch for me, should they so choose. I once had Guinness with Doug Adams in Illinois and we remained on speaking terms thereafter.I'm also German, so everything is my fault, not Conrad Pope's.Carry on!Lol, can't believe I'm only seeing this now! Great stuff And yes, Kuhni is about as crazy (and knowledgeable) as LotR fans get. He'll fit right in here! What does "air conducting" mean anyway? Where else would you conduct if not in the air, underwater?I assume it has something to do with the fact that you're conducting air, not an orchestra
The Score Cleaner 9,292 Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 What does "air conducting" mean anyway? Where else would you conduct if not in the air, underwater?Ever heard of Air Guitar?

Tedward 0 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Hello everyone,I know I might not be in the right thread, but well, I didn't really know where to post that :I was listening to ROTK Complete Recordings, and while listening to the track "the lighting of the beacons", I noticed a very brief moment which shares a certain likeness with a part of Zelda Twilight Princess soundtrack.I know, I'm risking at least lapidation for this comparisons, but just give it an ear before :- The Lighting of the Beacons , see link below between 6'25 and 6'45http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgJYNveHOYU- Zelda Twilight Princess, "Hyrule Plain", between 3'47 and 4'10http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlL3-ZFjshEjust the rythm and back strings accompaniement give the same kind of atmosphere.By the way, just come back from seeing DOS in iMAX : amazing sound, mainly the moments with Smaug the stupendous !"Good mornin'Ted
KK 3,310 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 BloodBoal is Jon Broxton? My my, you're very different around these parts, aren't ya?
The Score Cleaner 9,292 Posted August 11, 2014 Author Posted August 11, 2014 BTW what was the Oboe version of Evenstar in the CR credits for?
gkgyver 1,647 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Probably an alternate? Or an alternate for Arwen's Fate? Jim Ware 1
Jim Ware 612 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Probably an alternate? Or an alternate for Arwen's Fate?I believe it was one of the pieces written for the end credits.
Incanus 5,884 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Hmmm... I'll stick to the original recording.

The Score Cleaner 9,292 Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 http://newboards.theonering.net/forum/gforum/perl/gforum.cgi?post=863413;Hi everybody,My name’s Dan, I’m a music PhD in England and I’m currently doing some research into fan cultures surrounding the LOTR and Hobbit franchises, and focusing on the Peter Jackson trilogies and particularly Howard Shore’s soundtracks........The research I’m doing is for an article to be published in 2016, and I might put together a questionnaire if this takes off! Do let me know if you’d rather not have your name/handle quoted in the paper. Thanks everyone!Dan White
Incanus 5,884 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Has this little LotR music related reminiscence of an LPO member been mentioned before?
Incanus 5,884 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 I don't think it has been.A nice read."Tycho drums". Hehehe...Heh. Obviously the cellist is not familiar with this particular brand of instruments.

Barnald 424 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Shore seems like such a sweet guy.I've been told by people who worked on the LOTR scores that he's actually a real tyrant. Even worse than Horner.I heard that 3 violinists actually died from exhaustion due to his excessive demands

gkgyver 1,647 Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Is the music for the end of the Hobbit appendices on disc 3 of BOFA EE a genuine extension of the FotR Breaking of the Fellowship alternate?
Incanus 5,884 Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Is the music for the end of the Hobbit appendices on disc 3 of BOFA EE a genuine extension of the FotR Breaking of the Fellowship alternate?Apparently it is the true full version of it. The FotR EE Fan Credits edited it down.
The Score Cleaner 9,292 Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 Anyone extracted the audio of that?I did.Which version of the BBC radio drama of LOTR should I buy if I want the CD with the music from it?
Incanus 5,884 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Which version of the BBC radio drama of LOTR should I buy if I want the CD with the music from it?I think it is this version. But I am not sure if this adaptation is abridged radio drama or the full version because there seem to be full and and abridged on available and some people are commenting in Amazon review section how their version is abridged. Curious. Proceed with caution and make more inquiries before purchasing any edition Fal.
Jim Ware 612 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 If it has twelve discs, it is complete and has the music on disc twelve.
Jay 44,810 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Glad you figured out your unsolved mystery!
Jim Ware 612 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 The music used in the second half of the original version is Epicalypse, elements of which were retained for the final (Shore) version of the trailer (rotk 826 cue numbering fans).
KK 3,310 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 This is a nice overview of Shore's leitmotivic approach. Nothing new, but nice nonetheless.
Red 75 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Really good video and a great Youtube channel in general. I'd love to see him do a Williams score.
Gnome in Plaid 219 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 3 hours ago, Kühni said: "SORTA FUMBLING ALONG!" That might be the first time I've ever appreciated the use of an emoji.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,261 Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 You haven't heard it played nearly that "fully" until that scene (the awesome departure from Rivendell comes closest). It's usually carried by soloists or smaller orchestrations, so you notice the difference when it's presented in a less humble and more "conclusive" manner. Very moving scene. And a great example of Shore's unique harmonic voicings using the lower members of the orchestra. SafeUnderHill 1
