John Williams is conducting the National Anthem tonight...

...as part of a tribute to Vin Scully at Dodger Stadium

As part of the ceremony, John Williams will conduct members of the LA Philharmonic in a special arrangement of the national anthem. The Dodgers are opening the stadium parking lots at 4:10 p.m. and the stadium gates at 4:40, and encouraging fans to arrive earlier than usual — and be in their seats by 6:30. Perhaps as an inducement, a letter from Scully will be handed to 50,000 of the fans as they come through the gates. Game time against the Colorado Rockies is 7:20 p.m. After-game fireworks are planned.

Woah!!!

Probably a new arrangement, right?

:jump:

Gotta see if there will be a live webcast/radio broadcast available online!

Really cool that it's for Vin Scully too.

"The stadium gates will open at 4:40 p.m. PT Friday, and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:30 for the ceremony, which will also be carried live on AM 570 KLAC radio and on the KTLA, SportsNetLA and SportsNetLA's Spanish-language telecasts."

The TV broadcasts obviously won't have a free online stream but the radio one might.... Looking into it. And I wouldn't be surprised if MLB.com had a stream of the ceremony although I haven't found evidence of that yet.

EDIT: Sounds like the radio broadcast won't be live-streamed. So either MLB.com puts up a stream or we wait and hope someone who has access posts it on YouTube in the next few days.

Has anyone seen if it will be broadcast online? I can't seem to find anything...

Found it:

Yes, but there's a very high chance that that live broadcast won't show the game because of rights deals (although it may show the pregame stuff, which is all we want anyways, I dunno).

I'm confused.  It's 7:51 here on the east coast.  So it shoudl be 4:51 right now in California.  But the live stream I'm watching says 3:49pm.  Is it on an hour delay?

Whoa boy, something's really wrong with that stream. I just reloaded it and now it says live but it's from 3:00 LA time.

Maybe they just rerun the news until game time

I actually think now maybe they rerun the news throughout the pregame and actual game to try to encourage sports fans to actually watch on TV. :(

EDIT:

@Jay

Huh.

@king mark Between 6:30 and 7:20 LA time.

But we may not be able to watch/listen to it.

If anyone lives in LA and has access to Sportsnet LA perhaps they are live-streaming it?

Well in any case you'd think it will be up on YouTube in a few days.

I hope, at least.

Well, I suppose it's worth checking both that KTLA link and this link - http://www.iheart.com/live/am-570-la-sports-189/ - when it's time. One of them might have the pregame show, you never know. The game won't be on either link but the pregame show might. Crossing my fingers.

They're showing something here too but I'm not sure what exactly. Could be a replay of something.

That's what I'm getting

But I'm listening on the radio link I posted above and watching KTLA and they're just doing a montage, not the actually ceremony. So it makes sense.

These should all work. I just wanted to make a new thread to let people know that it seems like we'll be able to watch it. Should happen between now and 10:20 ET.

EDIT: This link seems the best:

EDIT #2: Hasn't happened yet. I'm watching.

EDIT #3:

I can see the music stands set up! The national anthem is usually very close to game time so it will likely be a little bit before it happens.

Watching now too!

The KTLA stream is showing it now too, not the news any more

Ones a little behind the other, not sure which is better.  I think the KTLA one is.

Don't mean to be that guy, but Will already posted those, Jay. Thanks for sharin' nonetheless though!

Well, the real credit goes to @Jay anyway because we would have had no idea this was happening at all without him starting this thread!

Should be about five minutes or fewer till JW.

This site usually crashes around this time at night so my reaction might be delayed until tomorrow. :)

EDIT: Oh, it's probably going to be way more than five minutes. The game is scheduled to start in five minutes but it won't since Scully has to go all the way up to the press box to call it.

Wonder whether this will be an old arrangement or a new one. My favorite I've heard was the 4th of July NSO one from 2014 (I think). But he could use full orchestra there; here it's just brass and percussion.

Even aside from JW, this is a nice ceremony. Scully is an incredible piece of history. So nice to see him honored.

DUH.  I did not think I was presenting new information.  Sheesh.

Cool arrangement! As typical, Williams brass writing (and the orchestra's playing) is so virtuoso. Like the drum roll at the beginning, I think that was new. The ending was great too (it was first heard in JW's Boston World Series arrangement, I believe).

So was JW really a good friend of Vin Scully?

Anyone know what the "epic" music was that was playing throughout most of the ceremony (and the red -- blue -- carpet at the end)? Sounded a little too "epic," if you know what I mean, to be JW.
