But if you added WOTW as well... hmm. I'd lose Marion without a doubt, unfortunately it really doesn't take the theme anywhere beyond some of the original Raiders statements to make it feel like a look back after a long time has passed.
crumbs 15,868 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Yeah I never revisit that track. I wouldn't mourn its omission, unlike the criminally underused revised Lost World suite.

Jay 44,818 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Here's the proof that CE3K was recorded during these recording sessions: https://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/27686-close-encounters-of-the-third-kind-new-2cd-complete-la-la-land-edition-available-to-order-november-28th-1200pst/&do=findComment&comment=1417493 AFAWK it's the existing old suite, not some fancy new arrangement. And AFAWK, that is the only thing they recorded that they didn't put on volume 3 - and it was likely recorded as a warmup, not for potential inclusion And here's a MUCH more thorough list of concert arrangements from Spielberg/Williams collaborations that are not on volume 1, 2, or 3: https://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/32683-will-we-see-another-spielbergwilliams-collaboration/&do=findComment&comment=1738530 Amer 1
Amer 2,696 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Matessino also mentioned in The video podcast that WOTW may have been recorded. Concert Version of Escape from the City from WOTW For Volume #4, Another piece that I would love to hear in full recording is the Young Indys First Adventure concert arrangement from THE LAST CRUSADE.

thx99 2,077 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 I can confirm (through someone who worked on the project) that something from CE3K was recorded during the S/W Collaboration III sessions.
crumbs 15,868 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Weird... Wonder why it hasn't appeared in concerts? Vienna would've been an opportune time to debut it. Even stranger if it was just a new recording of an existing piece from volume 1.

There's no evidence. Quote For Volume #4, Another piece that I would love to hear in full recording is the Young Indys First Adventure concert arrangement from THE LAST CRUSADE. I've been to one, or maybe two concerts where he conducted this - it isn't concertized. It's the same as the film cue. I'd still love to hear a new recording on a volume 4 regardless, though!

Jurassic Shark 15,940 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Perhaps they played it backwards.

Well it ends as a short slambang coda which sort of make it like Concert piece but everything else in it as its film counterpart because its supposed to sync to the film for that performance. Its a favorite of mine.
Jay 44,818 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Yea exactly. And yea, it's great! Both times I saw it live, I loved it!

Plus, it's very similar to " Leia'sTheme" and much superior "The Love theme from ESB"
Brundlefly 2,401 Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 Can we get a Volume 4 with all the dark stuff that normally never appears at any concerts or on any compilations, please? Yavar Moradi and crumbs 2
Popular Post TheUlyssesian 2,673 Posted July 8, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 8, 2021 So in a terrible corporate conference in my company today (zoom only), I nearly spit out my coffee when one of the pieces of music used between sessions was this - They played a middle portion for about a minute and I was like holy shit that's random. So I had to listen to the full cue again and it is of course absolutely glorious. Gotta track down the intern that put it on. They sure have great taste. Chewy, Smeltington, Holko and 6 others 6 3
TheUlyssesian 2,673 Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 The other music they used throughout the day was the garbage shit free youtube corporate music. And some terrible songs (I am not that familiar with music with lyrics).
Tom 6,288 Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 It is a wonderful near-concerto for alto sax. I remember being very pleased that Williams gave us an "authoritative" recording of the whole piece with the third album. Kind of like your phone story, I have noticed that "Christmas Star," more than the other HA pieces, gets a lot of playtime at stores in December.
bollemanneke 4,249 Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 OH MY GOD! I only just realised that in the second movement of CMYIC he quotes Beethoven's 9th in the double bass solo. This record has such a nice flow too! Jurassic Shark 1
Popular Post mrbellamy 7,834 Posted November 21, 2024 Popular Post Posted November 21, 2024 Had a listen to all three of these again today Is bookending Theme from Schindler's List with The Lost Boys Ballet and The Basket Chase the most demented sequencing of all time? Jay, That_Bloke, crumbs and 2 others 5
bollemanneke 4,249 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Not as demented as repeating part of track 1 on track 3 on the Home Alone OST.
Thor 9,334 Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 Please don't let me trawl through the previous 31 pages to find out this, but just to jog my memory: This was never released on its own CD, right? Only in the box? (plus vinyl and download). I suddenly realized it was missing from my Williams CD want list, which might have been a deliberate choice, since I already own the first two volumes and wasn't interested in doubling up on those two just to get that third volume on CD.

BB-8 5,841 Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 You could opt for the Japanese release which seems to be a single CD plus bonus DVD: CDJapan : John Williams Conducts Music For The Flims Of Steven Spielberg [CD+DVD] [Blu-spec CD2] John Williams (conductor) CD Album John Williams – The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration Part III - The Adventures Continues – CD (Blu-Spec CD 2, Compilation) + DVD (Compilation), 2017 [r16397811] | Discogs [Edit: sold out] Thor 1
Jay 44,818 Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 You could buy the box and take it out of the box and its basically like its own CD - it's just in a cardboard sleeve instead of a jewel case
Popular Post BB-8 5,841 Posted April 22, 2025 Popular Post Posted April 22, 2025 Or get this... ...and discard the first 19 discs ;-) Amazon.com: John Williams Conductor: Musik-CDs & Vinyl Jurassic Shark, Martinland and Dr. Rick 3
Thor 9,334 Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 OK, thanks, so this Japan release...has anyone seen any photos of how the thing looks? Is it in a DVD case? I can't seem to find any "un-boxing" videos or photos by googling.

I'd totally forgotten about that. So this means that between the original releases, the S/W box and the Sony box, I have three original copies each of the first two Collaboration albums…

I don't like having duplets or triplets like that. So just sell the old ones, you say? Can't do. Vol. 2, in particular, I have a strong personal connection to, that exact CD. Will never part with it. But providing this Japanese release is an actual CD, and not in a DVD case or whatever, suppose I'll have to add it to my want list. Wish it had retained the original cover, though, and not the box cover.
Marian Schedenig 11,177 Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 Vol. 1 was I believe the third CD I ever bought (or 4th, in case JP came first, but I don't think it did). But I don't like getting rid of CDs in general.
