Maybe we aren't even entitled to know about that. I find these celebrity health scares speculation threads sickening anyway.

How holy and classy of you.

You can't get the public's money without getting the public's interest.

Just read about it on Twitter this morning.

RIP, Carrie Fischer.

At least she will be joining R2-D2 to give the plans to the Death Star. ^_^

Episode VIII has been filmed, though there are likely some scheduled reshoots in early Spring.  My preference, assuming the character doesn't die in VIII, is that her character is just not in IX.  I'm sure after people are done grieving, Lucasfilm will figure it out, and maybe we'll find out eventually or maybe never find out how Carrie's passing has changed the plans

Didn't CGI make her obsolete in Rogue One?

RIP. I really do not wish to be insensitive but am asking ithis out of pure curiosity: what will happen to Star Wars now? How much has been filmed / how would they write her out of the trilogy?

It's quite possible they will do something like what they did on Gladiator, when Oliver Reed died during filming. Or Fast And The Furious. Rewrite and use what footage they have, augmented with stand-ins or CGI if needed. I doubt they will actually replace the actress with a full CGI double though.

Not if you don't want a huge fan backlash.

They came close to doing so with Rogue One.
