Bespin 8,480
Hey, DDL, listen to this Aznavour song: My approximative translation: I shall not say my farewells I know some who aspire for a sabbatical year Alone and far from the crowd in the Pole or in the Tibet Who make public confessions hand on the foreheadPlaying uncomfortable in their own skin, allergic to success They want to forget the autograph hunters They want to escape media, save their private life But followed as a shadow by a photographer In their search for the inner self and their identity Very early they speak about retreatWe would take them almost seriously But for me the thing is clearBelieve in me I shall not say my farewells Not having taken life with the wind in stern The way being blocked to me, it was necessary to open itI shall thus be careful not to spit in the soupIt was too hard for me to make it boilFalses exits irks me alot False intellectuals make me laugh Sincerely it is better to laugh at it Look me straight in the eyes Whatever anyone can write or sayBelieve in me I shall not say my farewells These small natures, sunday's hermitsKings of "I know everything" who hear themselves talkAs soon as their records sales dropsWithout admitting one's guilt, they are coming back Admit that there are kicks in the ass that are lost"I leave", "I'm exhausted", "Hi, it's me again" With a new look, a new sound, well, shit You stay or you go away, there's no big deal When it will be necessary to turn the pageFor the moment there is no hurryI shall warn people around meHowever I shall not say my farewellsUnless I change in old ageI shall not say my farewells... karelm 2,911
Damn, I loved every single one of his performances. I remember while "discovering" him in "My Left Foot" thinking how amazing the performance was of that guy who had cerebral palsy only to realize it was just a complete performance. Koray Savas 2,251
You created a thread to announce that you were "retiring" from the board. I don't understand the reason to announce a retirement and then give absolutely no reason and then say you will never comment on it. Could it be just for publicity's sake? All you have to say is "Yeah I want to focus on other avenues of life, etc and so" or really not even say anything at all and no one would care or notice. mstrox 6,649
One thing is for sure: I've never seen a movie with Daniel Day Lewis in it. His retirement will affect me very little, it seems.
Koray Savas 2,251
It will affect everyone very little. The man barely acts as is. No one is clamoring "What will he do next?!" every year, so if he just vanished no one would notice.

Brundlefly 2,385
I didn't know he only did around 20 movies. So he has got the highest movie/Oscar-average. Though it's not his best movie, I consider his performance in Gangs of New York as his best.

mstrox 6,649
My sensibility in movies leads me to think that I would like Lincoln, Gangs of New York, and There Will Be Blood. I just never have gotten around to any of it. (Well, we watched about five minutes of There Will Be Blood and my spouse wasn't having any of it, so we switched).
