antovolk 95
Saw film tongiht. Zimmer's score is so different - think Interstellar's Imperfect Lock but a whole score like that (can't imagine what it'll be like on the album as it very much works best in context, like Johannsson's Arrival score but not as bad thinking about outside context) but absolutely excellent. rest of thoughts on film https://letterboxd.com/antovolk/film/dunkirk-2017/1/ Cerebral Cortex

Well, Tina Guo did like 32 hours of cello for this movie. And Satnam Ramgotra did additional music. So there has to be some drums in there as well. I don't think there is a whole orchestra though. leeallen01 2,136
Okay, here goes my mental breakdown, if you'll all just indulge me for a second. I like Nolan's films. I'm yet to see a film of his that I didn't enjoy. The Prestige is his best in my opinion. Also I like Zimmer. I enjoy many of his scores. So I like both of them and their work together also. So how come I can't shake this constant impression of utter smug pretentiousness? Both guys seem humble enough and great at what they do, but every time they do a new film, in the whole lead up to it, I find myself not interested at all in it, because it feels like a pretentious attempt at gathering awards and praise along the lines of "They are artists ahead of their time," or some cringe-worthy crap. Yet when I see a new film of theirs, I always enjoy it. In summary, I like both Nolan and Zimmer, I like all their collaborations, yet I cannot shake my mental image of them smelling each others farts whilst looking at the Mona Lisa. I need mental help.
