Update: probably the Final recording session is next week. Looks like the sessions are finally wrapping up. Word is Williams has done another great job. More details to be shared at the right moment.

I'm guessing he'll move back to RPO now and focus on The Papers later this year.

 

Still psyched we're enjoying this late-career resurgence of scoring energy from Johnny; by the end of the year he'll have written as many scores since 2015 as he wrote in the decade following Munich !

 

He described himself as 'revivified' after finishing TFA... well, Johnny Baby wasn't fucking around!

Yes, The source music has been recorded but cant say more just yet. I guess I will be at a liberty to discuss more as the timeline approaches.

I just know about two pieces ! One of them hearkens in style back to Episode IV! (in tribute) No! ...not Leia...but Im sure that will receive some more regal presentation and I have asked about it.

I hope the recording style returns to ROTJ/TPM/ROTS territory though, less dry than TFA.

Williams doesnt write in that brassy broad sense anymore. He is battling multi channels sound effects and dialogue so he has to find breathing spaces to write to. TFA had some great brass flourishes that did remind me of is 80s style of scoring but most of it was in the same prequel idiom of orchestrations. Although there was less winds and chirping piccolos this time.!

Yesterdays (Tuesday) sessions was probably some Source music cues as two Jazz percussionists were at Sony studios. Alex Neciosup Acuna and Paulinho da Costa. I have no idea who these guys are ! Actor Benicio El Torro was also attending the sessions!

I'm trying not to set my expectations too high in terms of funky weirdness, but depending on Johnson's approach this could be a neat Star Wars. Just based on Johnson's general style and how responsive Williams usually is to directors' individual tastes, I feel like along with all the usual tropes, both film and music have potential for a bit more idiosyncratic highlights compared to TFA and probably whatever Trevorrow does. Bringing in jazz percussionists seems on the right track!

Holy shit, 100% confirmed The Last Jedi will have percussion like Lost World! Obviously JW became inspired after revisiting TLW for Matessino's expansion!
