Popular Post chinaismine 64
October 13-15 with the Cincinnati Pops Quote The majesty of Music Hall is revealed again through the musical genius of John Williams’ greatest hits, as performed by JMR and the Pops. Experience selections from Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and more by the master of film music. Plus hear the world premiere of the theme from Schindler’s List adapted for cello and orchestra, offered personally by John Williams! http://cincinnatisymphony.org/concerts-plus-events/pops/1718-pops/music-of-john-williams/?utm_source=wordflymkt&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=singleonsale&utm_content=johnwilliams&sourceNumber= Bespin, Incanus, Will and 2 others
crumbs 14,276
Wow, awesome! Very cool to hear that he'd revisit a score like SL after 24 years. I wonder what triggered this? I always enjoy JW's revised arrangements; he usually infuses some of his modern sensibilities into older works. I especially liked his recent Face of Pan revision, offering a far darker interpretation.

crumbs 14,276
It was posted somewhere here recently but was sadly taken down due to a copyright claim. I'm not sure it was ever re-posted unfortunately!
Johnnyecks 33
I would love to hear that. Considering I'm learning how to play the cello, and SL is one that I would like to play....
Thor 7,385
I'm rather weary of the SCHINDLER'S LIST theme, beautiful and haunting as it may be. It's reached the kind of "evergreen" status of certain classical pieces through its thousands of performances over the years. I much prefer "Remembrances" or "Jewish Town" (which they played to my surprise at the recent Oslo Philharmonic concert). But I'm still mildly curious to see what new changes he has made to it, and if it's able to breathe new life into the piece.
TownerFan 4,983
Review of the concert: https://janellesnotes.wordpress.com/2017/10/14/review-pops-star-wars-show-is-glorious-tribute-to-john-williams/ And interview with conductor John Russell Morris: http://local12.com/news/good-morning-cincinnati/cincinnati-pops-to-perform-a-salute-to-john-williams He reveals the arrangement for cello was originally written for Yo-Yo Ma, but never performed. crumbs and chinaismine
Miguel Andrade 1,251
Back in 1994, Williams said in an interview that Ma had showed interest in playing music from Schindler's List and that he was planning in arranging it. This is likely to be such an arrangement.
