What do you pay for limited editions in your country?

I'm asking for the price you pay in your country for special editions, expansions, complete scores, ... you know what I mean.

 

As far as I can see, on the websites of the labels themselves, there are normally three price ranges:

1CD = normally 19,99$

2CD = normally 29,99$

3CD = normally 34,99$

Of course, that's without shipping fees and it's dollars. So what do you have to pay in England, Sweden, Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Pakistan, ... ?

 

I will start with Germany:

There are two criteria that normally influence the price - the number of discs and the label's shipping fees.

 

Quartet Records

1CD = 16,95€ = 20,14$

2CD = 21,95€ = 26,08$

 

La-La Land

1CD = 22,95€ = 27,26$

2CD = 36,95€ = 43,90$

3CD = 49,95€ = 59,34$

 

Intrada

1CD = 27,95€ = 33,20$

2CD = 37,95€ = 45,08$

 

Varese Sarabande

1CD = 34,95€ = 41,52$

2CD = 42,95€ = 51,02$

 

It's annoying that you have to pay twice as much for Varese Sarabande as for Quartet, althought the latter is clearly the better special label.

It's hard to show the comparison, but let's say for a LLL release like E.T., it costs me in canadian dollars (shipping fees included) 2-3 times the price that I usually pay for a single CD.

 

It's luxury, but I say to myself, it's still cheapier than a bottle of Veuve Clicquot!

Few years ago the canadian dollar was in pair with US dollar, that's not the case anymore.

 

41,23 $USD is actually 52,60 $ CAN, that's not so bad.

 

A bottle of Veuve Cliquot costs me 70 $ CAN.

 

About canadian labels, I practically don't buy anything canadian, my tastes are for US and France artists, unfortunately!

Sorry, I wanted to ask for big differences of shipping fees that the different American special labels (LLL, Intrada, Varese) request for sending it to Canada.

 

I'm asking, since LLL and VS both want 19,99$ in the US for a 1disc set, but in Germany LLL is more than 27$ and VS is more than 41$, cause if the different shipping fees.

I don't pay anything because not a single store offers them here in Finland. In the end it is usually still cheaper to order overseas than go with the European labels. Plus faster.

 

Also I tend to bundle multiple releases in a single order to ease the shipping cost a bit compared to ordering these things individually.

I'd pay around £15 or so for a single CD, which is actually pretty good considering it's not a mainstream release.

 

It's shipping where we get burned - a minimum of £10 for one disc.

We don't have our own Amazon but the one's for sale e.g. in the UK store usually have pretty high prices. Especially when slapped with the label IMPORT on the site. Funnily enough quite a few regular soundtracks are initially marked as imports with a higher price until they get some in stock and the price goes down.

Yup. The ordering of a single CD from US is really expensive these days. I remember getting some used CDs from Amazon marketplace that together cost much less than the postal fees.

 

And I am so glad the specialty labels mark a token value for these CD packages so the customs usually don't bother with them.

The German amazon prices for special editions have a crazy range from incredibly expensive unpayable unreasonable to unreasonable low prices.

Secret of NIMH by Intrada plus shipping fees costs 30€. Amazon sold it for 16€! I bought one copy and the price rised to 40€!

The Jurassic Park Collection costs 75€ with sipping fees. On Amazon it was for 50€! The next day it was 95!

Should I be able to see the logic in it?

God yes. I've been really hit by customs a couple of times by other companies stating the real value. Over here it's £8 customs, plus £8 for a Royal Mail 'handling fee'.

I don't consider currency symbol usage to fall under the cloud of grammar. It's more of a convention.

Hey don't forget the "protection money" Screen Archives Entertainment is collecting from their customers in the form of the optional safer registered delivery in areas of the world where alledgedly their packages have frequently gone missing, the whopping $45 on top of the normal shipping fees if I have understood it correctly. It is optional but it is always nice to hear in advance that my package might, just might, go missing if I don't pay some extra for it. You don't want your CDs to have an accident, do you?

 

I have ordered from them recently and risked the normal delivery (still expensive) and it arrived more or less in normal time without a hitch.

That whole thing is a rip-off. I used to fall for it because of the sense of urgency it conveyed. But not once in my personal history of online shopping have I had an item go missing in the postal system. Not meaning to say it'll never happen, but the likelihood of it happening is statistically low.

No. They don't replace any lost CDs if your package was sent with regular shipping fee, only if you take the extra $ 45 registered mail option.

I never realized what "Wild West" the normal shipping of CDs from one continent to another is, how fraught with peril the airlines and waterways of the world are and how hungrily soundtrack pirates hijack our precious expanded editions in the highways and side paths of the postal wilderness. I guess the next level will be an armored car and an armed escort for $ 100.
