Popular Post Tom 5,139
As we impatiently await the two new scores, it is a week to be thankful for what we have. Today, listen to Tributes. What a mature, profound, yet fun composition. The strings at times recall the Essay written 30 years prior, but with a greater liveliness. Also, this is a piece where Williams absolute command of all the sections of the orchestra working together. Why on earth does this not have a commercial release? Thor 8,358
I think he's referring to the Tokyo thingie, that apparently has "For Sejii!" as a bonus track. I have a couple of great-sounding concert recordings of this already, but they're not official.
Tom 5,139
Yes, I am referring to the upcoming DG release. Relistening to the piece, it does play like a mini concerto for orchestra. Back in the day, it was reported that Williams was working on such a concerto, which then became Tributes/for seiji. I wonder if his work on The Phantom Menace took a bit more time than anticipated, which led to a smaller scale version of his original plans. Either way, it is a great little piece--all the stylings of Williams's concertos, with highlights for flute, clarinet, horn, distilled into one movement. Tom 5,139
Bumping the thread to showcase the new recording. I find the two performances comparable, but the recording quality of this one is obviously much higher. Gurkensalat and Will

Tom 5,139
They were composed at the same time. Yes, those trumpets do have a Naboo/Coruscant vibe to them. BB-8
