He said he will only make 10 movies. He can't possibly end his career with a Star Trek movie.

I think he said at one point that, if he makes a Star Trek movie, it would probably not count towards the 10 in his mind.

He counts them as:

  1. Reservoir Dogs
  2. Pulp Fiction
  3. Jackie Brown
  4. Kill Bill
  5. Death Proof
  6. Inglorious Basterds
  7. Django Unchained
  8. The Hateful Eight
  9. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Obviously, if you choose you, you could consider him as having directed up to 12 films, depending on whether or not you count Four Rooms, whether or not you count Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 as separate movies, and whether or not you count Grindhouse and Death Proof as separate experiences.  Heck, with both Hateful Eight and OUATIH getting mini-series versions on Netflix, you could count them too if you wanted to.

Tiny bit of new info

So I started being put in all these writers’ rooms, but I also started being asked to help people crack IP, including Star Trek, which started as the Tarantino writers’ room. Tarantino wanted to do a Star Trek room, which was the most fun room I’ve ever done.

We got in there and he started with, “So what are your guys’ ideas for a movie?” and I think I went first. So he listened to us patiently and just kind of nodded his head, and then he took out his notebook and started talking for 20 minutes with lines of dialogue and passionate ideas that he’d already written. It wasn’t really a story yet; they were just random thoughts he had on a movie, but it was so passionate and so wonderful. And I laughed to myself and thought, “Well, why didn’t we start with that?” There was a funny moment where he just stopped in the middle of that room and turned to me and said, “Lindsey, you’re really good at this.” And getting that compliment from somebody whose career I admire so much meant a lot, obviously.

Nolan would be great if we want 30 minutes of exposition on how exactly a tube of toothpaste can be used as a time reversal device, thereby letting Bond relive all the historical eras of past Bonds, being both boring and meta at the same time. The perfect modern blockbuster.

Let Tarantino have a go at Bond.

Couldn't be any worse than NTTD, or letting Nolan mess it up.

He looked into it -

Tarantino’s alright. I don’t love his movies, but I don’t hate them, some are fascinating, but he shouldn’t be allowed within 500 feet of a Star Trek movie.

I don’t think he would be capable of making something as earnest, as pacifist, and as downright dorky as Star Trek without trying to make it “cool” and cynical.

Have you seen his last movie "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood"? I guess not. Otherwise you wouldn't say that, I think.

No I haven't, admittedly, but I've all but a couple of his films, and I just don't think his sensibility would work with Star Trek. I would love to know what about the property he finds interesting enough to make a film.

I understand. Still, watch it. I have not seen such a uncynical movie about Holywood, that was made after the 1950s. It's great.
