Perhaps Williams could compose a major version of the Force theme for lighter, more family-friendly moments. Something like this:

That actually sounds very nice! Particularly the beginning, which has echoes of Rose's theme.

And most likely will finish 9 with it as well.

Yep, and that makes me kind of sad. I miss the OT and PT approach of having original music for each ending cue. It made sense to reprise the Binary Sunset music to end ROTS given the visuals. I am ok with using it to end TFA because of the little string variation right before the end credits is new and interesting. But the rendition to end TLJ is just boring. We can pretty safely assume Ep 9 will end with some rendition of the Binary Sunset again so that's 3 straight uses of the same music to end SW films and that makes me sad.

^That would have been great. TLJ should have ended with the final shot of Rey and Leia and the rest of the Resistance on the Falcon with that big statement of the rebel fanfare. That shot seemed like an intentional callback to the end of ROTJ and would have worked better as a final scene and final cue than how the movie actually ends.

It's even worse if you count Rogue One which also ends with the Force theme !

Speaking of which, seeing as IX is supposed to be more than just any other episode, I'd mark that by breaking the mould of the opening credits music!

I've said it before: have Jar-Jar Binks make an appearance in the film (with his theme for all I care) only to be brutally killed.

You could write it to be the "James Bond opening" of the film; So right after the crawl with the new music!

TFA should have ended with a giant, heartbreaking statement of Rey's theme. That would've been perfect.

TFA should have ended with the Falcon leaving for Ahch-To. Jedi Steps and meeting Luke should have been the start of TLJ, and said film should have been set 1-3 years after the end of TFA.

Poe could hook him on his (new) X-Wing and drop him down a smoke stack (on Coruscant)!

So we have these love pairs here:

Reyinn (Rey and Finn)

Foe (Finn and Poe)

Fose (Finn and Rose)

Reylo (Kylo and Rey)

Pey (Poe and Rey)

Chey (Chewie and Rey)

Hylo (Hux and Kylo)

Chorgie (Chewie and a porg)

Gosh, no wonder they're making more movies after IX.

Yeah, I had thought beforehand that Rogue One wouldn't have much of the Force theme either... I think the worst actually is when its used as intro music for Jimmy Smits.

Maybe it’s payback for when they used Leia’s theme for

Spoiler

Ben’s death

Are we sure Rey doesn’t have some Skywalker in her?

So far she's still "no one."

  • 2 weeks later...

Is this Williams?

Could this be Williams?

Do you think this hot dog commercial contains Williams?

Will this random award show/concert/supermarket opening contain new Williams?

Just wait for the release ffs!

Alternately, you could not do that and just wait for the OST to come out.

Is the irony not clear in my original post?

Now that we're closer to the release date, I hope we do get some interviews or other info detailing Williams' contribution, and how Powell incorporated it into the score. I think we're all assuming/hoping Williams wrote a concert presentation of the theme which will end up on the album, and Powell took the theme from that and used it in the context of the score. But I'd like to hear from Williams, Powell, Howard, etc about whether that's the case, and how it all played out.
