Question About the Star Wars Soundtracks

Huh.  I could have sworn I remembered a better sounding version of Superstructure Chase debuting in a game, but some searching leads me to believe I was remembering wrong.  How about that.

I have a small problem. So my very cheap copies of the SW DVDs have all the OSTs on them but not in a usable file format to be able to burn to a disc or download to a device. So technically I own all the SW soundtracks already, it's just that I can only play them on the DVD. Any ideas about getting around this?

Nice question! I have the same problem with a Morricone score.

Ah too bad! Any thoughts on getting around it? And for the record I'm talking the entire saga (well, the first six) scores here, not just the original.

What do you mean by "DVDs"? You're not being specific enough. I don't understand what you're problem is exactly.

I have six DVD discs from one boxset. They include the prequels and the originals. On the main menu you can select play, options, scene selection or music. Every disc has this music feature: for the prequels it plays the OST and for the originals it play the 1997 ultimate editions. I can only play these on the DVD but I would like to be able to make them more accessible (i.e. convert the files and burn them to a disc/download them to a device.). That's my issue.

You could perhaps open the disc in Handbrake and cycle the different audio/video streams, hoping to find them... Though you'll probably need to rip it into an ISO first through something like DVD Decrypter to circumvent copy protection. Could you post/link an image of the boxset? I haven't heard of those kind of discs at all. When were they released and which master do they have, a downscale of the 2011 Bluray, the updated no Fox Fanfare Disney version, or the 2004 DVD?

Copyright protection probably won't be a problem then! :D

You could still try Handbrake, it's completely free.

Is there any chance you could upload a picture or two of the cover art and the little info box on the back? And if you can watch the movies fine, it's very simple to tell which version of the movies they are.

Didn't know about Handbrake, thanks!

I'm pretty sure these are the special edition versions by the way.

Look it up, it's free ripper/converter software.

It takes about 2 minutes to decide depending on the length of the menus. Pop in ANH, skip to Ben chasing away the Tuskens and going to check on Luke. If his scream sounds like some random dude screaming into the mic while tearing a hole in the spacetime-continuum, while R2 looks on from behind some badly photoshopped rocks that weren't there before, it's the Bluray master. If not, it's the 2004 DVD, I don't think they's put the 97 VHS release even on a chinese bootleg DVD.

If you want to look at the unaltered versions, please do yourself a favour and do not melt your eyes out with VHS. Look up Harmy's Star Wars Despecialised on Facebook and follow the instructions to get 1080p reconstructions of the originals.

Yeah, techincally I also highly prefer the Silver Screen and was vety sad to see Team N1 disband over petty stuff behind the scenes before they got to the other two.

EDIT: looks like the 4k77 will be ready relatively soon, 4k83 will take a few months, and 4k80 is also planned! Hyped! Really looking forward to the original Lapti Nek and Shaw's ghost in high definition, that will be a gamechanger.

ompletely unscathed, Han shot first, Boba Fett had a different voice, no Hayden Christensen pulling in at the end celebration. Very nice. Anyways, yeah.

The original film had changes as early as its theatrical re-runs. So even VHS isn't completely unaltered.

The thread title gave me the impression you were reviewing the Star Wars soundtrack and rating it only three stars. I was intrigued.

Woops, sorry! This was my first ever post on JWFan and I was not well-educated on things that are now very much familiar to me. I was just confused and seeking clarity on the many releases of the SW scores.  Now I see there's so much more neat stuff around here!

I'd love to read a review of someone indifferent to the Star Wars scores, just for a different point of view.

Someone well-articulated of course, not "Too much brass, 3/10".

Ben's scream sounds like a warble. It sounds like a "woooo" sound but more like that lizard thing from ROTS. In no way does it sound like a man.
