Popular Post zoltan_902 141
Speculating on his illness is neither helpful nor warranted. I for one will assume it has nothing to do with the travel. I'm not aware that long-haul flying is inherently unhealthy on elderly people, especially if it's as comfortable an on-board accommodation as one would expect for JW. The pace-maker might be a different issue, but for a journey as high stakes as this, his health would have been under enormous scrutiny from his insurers and management, so I cannot fathom that they'd write-off on this if there was such a huge inherent risk. crumbs, bollemanneke and _deleted_

But this concert was huge for me since after more than 2 decades of being a fan, I knew it was my only chance to see him alive. I started without tickets, and spent all spring/summer really frustrated for having lost my chance, and then after months of looking for unafordable options I was able to get tickets last minute on the re-sell of September! Has been really anxious and excited since then. I was a bit afraid of something like this due to his age, but yesterday with the setlist was like a reasuring that this was going to happen... and now this. It would be nice to have a little more information because I think we're all a bit unnerved by this news and the lack of clarity around his condition, so hopefully this is a precautionary measure and Williams simply needs time to rest and recover. No doubt he is getting the best care that money can afford in London, and hopefully his close family flew over with him to keep him company. Either way, I'm sure he's absolutely devastated by this turn of events and would not have made this decision lightly. Popular Post crumbs 14,275
It's also very common to catch illnesses on long-haul flights (in this instance, 12+ hours) because all the oxygen is recycled throughout the cabin, regardless of whether you're in the cockpit or economy. It just takes one jerk who decides to fly with the flu rather than cancel and the whole cabin risks exposure. The reality is we're more susceptible to getting sick as we grow older, because our immune system weakens with age. The important thing is John is exactly where he needs to be to make a full recovery and that's with 24/7 care in a hospital. Popular Post Damien F 1,739
I've seen JW six times in concert so maybe this cancellation isn't as heartbreaking for me as it is to others. I already saw him in Chicago this year, and if I'm being honest, I was attending London really to avoid missing out on the historic event itself rather than actually seeing JW. It must be horrible for those people who considered Friday their only chance of seeing him I remember over the recent years, whenever JW cancelled an expected score or a concert, there was talk of serious illness but that was never the case. So, I'm just going by the info we have to hand, he is in a London hospital for an unknown illness of unknown severity. Based on the announcement, he said himself that he wants the concert to go ahead. Having said that, the sight of JW basking in the cheers and rapturous applause of a packed Royal Albert Hall would have been an amazing and enduring image. tmarps, leeallen01 and crumbs
