So 9M85A Rey Looks is his revised version of this cue, as heard in the film and OST.

Cool! I just compared the two versions, Rey Looks has this extension between the build up and the climax of the Force theme that covers exactly Rey's reaction shot:

In my opinion, Johnson did the right thing, not only in musical terms (the violin passage for Rey helps diferentiating this particularly important Binary Sunset from all the other Binary Sunsets on the other movies), but also because it ties Rey's and Luke's arc on the movie. Instead of being only about Luke, it becomes about him and Rey.

Also, Luke Looks has this interesting French Horn fanfare (4:47 on the 360 video) after the Binary Sunset that on Rey Looks went replaced by this bridge for the Kylo scene:

This fanfare is interesting. Was it also a bridge for Kylo walking into the base? But it seems a little to regal, stately and optimistic for that... On JW's screen, there's seems to be a scene on where the Resistance is walking into the Millenium Falcon, so maybe it was that.

If you look closely, it appears to be the overhead shot of Kylo and the troops marching into the Resistance base. And the exact moment you mentioned seemed to get revised twice:

9m85B    Between Luke and the March
9m85C    Island to March

Maybe 9m85C Island to March is the final film version of Kylo's march, while 9m85B Between Luke and the March is an early alternate of the march which was a better fit for the regal fanfare that closes Luke Looks?

Probably was that. I guess Rian thought the bridge was too regal and stately for that moment, and he wanted the scenes to keep in the melancholic mood following Luke's death, so he asked JW to bridge the two scenes with something more intimate, sad, so JW used the cellos instead of French Horns.

Can anyone provide any clarification about what the hell is going on here?

Is the duplicate of '9m85 Insert' a typo? There were only 122 cues listed on page 1 and 123 listed on page 3, with that variance being the duplicate of insert 9m85.

It is strange, I mean how many version of Luke's death was recorded? But it could also be a typo, perhaps it is 9m83 final part 1? Or 9m84?

I also notis that 7m63 Big Fights appears twice.

I was watching the deleted scenes and I just realized that 7m64 Finn, Rose and Hux is for the deleted scene when Rose bites Hux and not the scene in which they are brought to Hux. Because 7m63 Big Fights is when Kylo his killing Snoke and Finn and Rose are brought to Hux just before that.

Interesting, I was checking the cue list for TLJ and now I'm curious with cue 9M85 and its many revisions and inserts.

Has anyone tried to put the climax (from Luke's arrival on Crait until the end credits) in the order it appears in the movie? Sorry if that's been done before, but I really would like to see how to order these many inserts.

Are you asking which inserts the film itself uses?  That's listed in the FYC breakdown

18 The Last Jedi (5:03)

  1. 0:00-1:14 9M82 Follow Him
  2. 1:14-1:55 More Fight
  3. 1:55-2:28 9M85 Finale Part I
  4. 2:28-end 9M85 Insert

19 Old Friends (1:24)

  • 9M86 Old Friends

20 Finale (9:03)

  1. 0:00-0:24 = 9M86 Old Friends {continued}
  2. 0:24-0:52 = 9M87 Finale, Pt. III
  3. 0:52-1:29 = End Credit
  4. 1:30-2:44 = End Credit Part 2
  5. 2:44-3:54 = End Credit Part 3
  6. 3:54-5:10 = Rose’s Turn
  7. 5:10-7:17 = End Credit Part 3 {continued}
  8. 7:17-end = End Credit Part 4

The OST does something different

18 The Last Jedi (3:04)

  • 0.00-0.17 = More Fight
  • 0.18-1.49 = 9M85 Finale Part I
  • 1.50-end = 9M85 Insert

19 Peace And Purpose (3:08)

  • 0.00-1.09 = 9M85A Rey Looks
  • 1.09-1.44 = 9M85 Finale Part I {continued}
  • 1.44- end = 9M86 Old Friends

20 Finale (8:28)

  • 0.00-0.36 = 9M86 Old Friends {continued}
  • 0.36-1.04 = 9M87 Finale, Pt. III
  • 1.04-1.42 = End Credit
  • 1.42-2.55 = End Credit Part 2
  • 2.56-5.30 = End Credit Part 3
  • 5.30-end = End Credit Part 4

The film also uses the 9M85A New - Rey Looks insert, but it's not part of the FYC selections.

This is definitely going to be a challenge for Mike Matessino to (hopefully) tackle one day! Some of the inserts are even written to replace parts of other inserts. We’re not certain all these variations were actually recorded, but here’s the general evolution of this sequence, from December 2016 to June 2017:

12/2/2016

9M85 Finale Part I

Or

9M85 Finale Part I [m 1–12]

9M85 Insert

9M85 Finale Part I [m 57–end]

Or

9M85 Finale Part I [m 1-32]

9M85 Insert 2

9M85 Finale Part I [m 57-end]

Or

9M85 Finale Part I [m 1-62]

9M85 Alt Insert

9M85 Finale Part I [m 68-end]

3/30/2017

9M85 Finale Part I [m 1–12]

9M85 Insert

9M85A Luke Looks

9M85 Finale Part I [m 70-end]

5/13/2017

9M85 Finale Part I [m 1–12]

9M85 Insert

9M85A Luke Looks [m 1-15]

9M85B Between Luke and the March

9M85 Finale Part I [m 72-end]

6/14/2017

9M85 Finale Part I [m 1–12]

9M85 Insert

9M85A Luke Looks [m 1-13]

9M85C Island to March

9M85 Finale Part I [m 70-end]

6/16/2017

9M85 Finale Part I [m 1–12]

9M85 Insert

9M85A New - Rey Looks

9M85 Finale Part I [m 70-end]

Basically, several variations of the reveal of Luke’s projection were written, then several variations of Luke’s death.

Thank you very much!

It's interesting to see how this sequence changed during the months. RJ really made JW review and review and review again the Luke vs Kylo fight scene a lot as (I think) the editing kept changing.

In any case, all the hard work they had with this cue worked out all right, as I think the score fits the scene perfectly.

But I do want to listen one day to the first versions of this cue, before all the changes.

It’s all the same 9M85 cues as the OST:

9M85 Finale Part I [m 1–12]

9M85 Insert

9M85A New - Rey Looks

9M85 Finale Part I [m 70-end]
