Alan 689
Yes I know that - I'm only an hour behind them, which is why I checked the site. I wasn't sure if the 27th May release date was going to turn out to be an error. Not unheard of on Amazon! The physical copies say "out of stock". Jay 37,319
I just checked. All the CD versions of the 2018 remasters now say "Temporarily out of stock" https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07BQP1GBK https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07BQNDXJGhttps://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07C9D8SW2/https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07CCZXJ1Thttps://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07CCZX8T2https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07BQNDXJF/ Meanwhile, the digital store is only selling the Jan 1 2017 digital versions https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B01N0U9SSC/ https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B01NAMLG20/ https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B01N9L1J25/ https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B01NBO1E41/ https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B01MZ37JBT/ https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B01MY1NQGZ/ So they probably messed up when the put April 27th as the release date for the CDs, and they are actually coming out May 4th there like every other country. Typical. Alan

crumbs 14,304
So the physical releases will be sourced from the new masters (scanned from the original film mixes), but the digital releases are just re-releases of the existing digital releases (sourced from the 2015 scan of the OST master tapes)?
Jay 37,319
No, I have no idea how you came to that conclusion. Technically, they haven't even announced a new digital release (though I'm sure there will be one). The only thing that happened recently was Amazon France attached their samples from the last digital edition to the page for the new CD edition. That's it. crumbs 14,304
Just figured they were clips from a digital release. Didn't realise there isn't even a digital release coinciding with the physical release (figured that was commonplace these days from major labels). In this case it's not really necessary since they just released the digital collection like a year ago. The original albums for the OT however were not released physically in 2016, which is why they are releasing them now. 5 hours ago, Jay said: You clearly didn't follow the entire conversation my post is a part of. Jay 37,319
Oh, I'm 100% positive there WILL be a digital release, it simply won't show up on these sites until release day (May 4). Popular Post voltisubito 42
The Phantom Menace arrived today. I've only had a chance to briefly A/B the first two tracks (Main Title/The Arrival at Naboo and Duel of the Fates) against the 1999 release, but my first impressions of these are that the remastered versions offer greater presence and clarity without sacrificing dynamic range, and that the 1999 versions sound muddier. The snare drum in the Main Title is much snappier and the brass sounds crisper. There's an interesting difference I noticed in Duel of the Fates at around 2:55 onwards. In the 1999 OST, the trumpets (in octaves) play on the offbeat a figure that is repeated once; in the new remaster, the line seems entirely different (not sure if it's been remixed or from another take) - the trumpet sounds the lower notes then rises up the minor triad on the repeat. Hard to describe in words, but it'll be quite apparent when you hear it. The production credits are: Recording/mixing: Shawn Murphy Transfers from analog masters to Hi Res digital: Dann Thompson Pre-mastering production: Shawn Murphy and Dann Thompson (assistant) at Skywalker Sound Editing: Mark Willsher and Timeri Duplat Mastering: Patricia Sullivan at Bernie Grundman Mastering Anyway, now to listen to the rest of the album!
