Remasters of the First 6 Star Wars Soundtracks now available (Shawn Murphy / Disney Records 2018)

@holko, my Return of the Jedi set has Han on Endor as the 'poster'.

NVM, I was thinking about something else.

OK, some pictures with the obligatory rug: (click to make them bigger)

Pictures apart from the posters are quite OK, Yoda behind the Empire disc should've been flipped because it's terrible both in composition and consistency with the others. The blurryness of the Empire poster doesn't quite come through in this picture.

The CDs are weird and half-printed, I've never seen anything like that before. No, you can't play the cover side, I tried.

As you can see, Jedi's shiny side is divided in two with diferent levels of shinyness, signifying how it's only half full. Or they just messed something up.

I only just now bought all 6 Star Wars remastered OS albums, and I'm listening to these now.

My first reaction: Has the sound quality gotten better or actually worse? 😂

Still I paid only 6,50 Euros each. What a bargain!

In some cases it's better in some cases it's a lot worse.

These are perfect for my car rides to work. The less than ideal speakers hide some of the errors. The trip is 20min, so I don't have to switch it off in some random place, but I can listen to it one LP side at a time, as it was partly intended and reordered for!

Was giving my first listen through to A New Hope and End Credits from Revenge of the Sith and noticed some terrible distortion to the Battle of the Heroes segment. I don't think it was my headphones, I played the single Battle of the Heroes track and no distortion was present. Agh! Apart from the sloppy editing/fading in a few spots RotS was one of my favorite remasters of this new line.

True.

Overall, though, I think these new remasters are (slightly) worse. A bummer.

That's not so worse. They just should have added notices on the cover: "Please don't listen with headphones." :sarcasm:

That's the only redeeming factor for these sets, they're cheap.

Don't forget the awesome posters! 😂

Not.

Headphones or not, do these sound better than the OS albums? Maybe a few spots here and there, when certain instruments stand out more (at the expense of others) but that's it.

Imo, the remastering was unnecessary.

I just re-uploaded "The Ewok Battle" to YouTube a few minutes ago with the film insert intact; I used the Arista mix, but just got a copyright notice for it from Varese. Kind of off topic, but I thought that was bizarre.

I don't think the mini posters are that bad, they spend the majority of their time sitting in their cd cases on my shelf. Who's going to use them as posters anyway?

The only reason I expected them to be better is that they're one of the big marketing points somehow.

Nah, it's another gimmick, but I think people buy these for the music. Sony and other labels have been pulling this shit for years with these big franchise releases. The Harry Potter scores received the same treatment, but the ephemera is secondary to the musical product.

I don't think anyone really gives two shits about the mini posters. If I wanted a piece of paper with a picture on it I'd just print one out myself.

I am late to this party but I must say, Empire Strikes Back sounds very bad.  This is one of my all time favorite soundtracks and I am an audiophile but this is a miserable release that doesn't stand up to the original LP, the 1993 box set or 1997 at all.  Wow, I had to stop listening to my favorite Star Wars entry because I couldn't bare any more of it because it is so off.  :(  My general impression is "did they even listen to their remaster or was this a quick cash grab?"

It doesn't even stand up to the 1997 release? It must sound like pure shit indeed.

For ESB yes, but I haven't yet gone to ROTJ...I don't have the stomach for it.  Very disappointed.

Problem with the back covers: Maul and Anakin are awesome, why doesn't AotC feature Dooku in the same pose? No, it's a hazy sandstorm image of clones. K.

Problem with the tray backings: Padmé is well-framed and matches wonderfully with the Anakin cover on the back. Ani would be fine if the teeth didn't cover half his bloody face (it's much worse in person than on this image from above, you can barely make out that there's a face under there). Boba is nicely framed but it's the shot that is the culmination of one of the most annoying and useless subplots in any SW movie, and doesn't represent the movie at all, not to mention really not consistent with the other two images. It makes me not want to take the disc out.

The gatefold screencaps are fine.

The miniposters are all horrid shit for many reasons.

They just told a random intern to cock up some random cool SW images and didn't bother with design or conformity at all - Sith and SW as separate entities are probably the only really good-looking ones of the bunch, with Jedi coming close (the awful poster, Luke's repetition and that semi-weird promotional still at the back bringing it down a bit).

Shoot dem! Or something!

She can't do dat!

Dooku's just cockblocking Gunray's torture porn fetish. Who would've thought Asian aliens were so dirty?

I distanced myself from Star Wars for a good seven years after ROTS after the three disappointments, and it was the Disney sale that brought my interest back.  I haven't been let down by any of the four new-era films.

EDIT:  just realized this was the score rerelease thread, not a movie thread.  I distanced myself too.

Target has them for $11.99.

Star Wars still has the best Main title.
