The "(Fill in the Blank) Has Died" Thread

It's true that producers don't get given as much limelight as directors or actors (heck, more people know the name Roger Deakins than they do Jon Landau), but that is not to dismiss what they do.

I'm sure that Mr. Landau did a great job for Cameron, and his films, and he was well-rewarded with an Academy Award for TITANIC.

What really saddens me is that he was only 63 years old when he died.

Yeah, he could have done more.

Cecil B. DeMille both produced and directed THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

What's your point?

Never saw it

RIP. This guy seemed very enthusiastic about his work, which showed by his frequent appearances in the bonus features (sometime as a host/narrator). He definitely did something right while helping Cameron execute is ginormous plans. 63 is way too young to go.

I have seen her only in The Shining as a lead actress, and a couple of minor roles in other films.

I would like to see Popeye though, and 3 Women, but I'm afraid the later because it is said to be incomprehensible!

@filmmusic, try NASHVILLE, and ANNIE HALL, McCABE AND MRS. MILLER, 3 WOMEN, and TIME BANDITS.

"The man is God."

"There's "God" coming out of the men's room."

You know, I have seen Annie Hall, McCabe & Mrs. Miller and Time Bandits but I don't remember anything about them, so of course I didn't remember her also.

About Nashville:

The plot puts me off. And I don't really like satire.

But I'd like to see it because it's in AFI's list about the 100 greatest American films.

80s Flamboyant Fitness Personality Richard Simmons has died at 76.  All that exercise didn’t really do much for impressive longevity.

He was entertaining.  And I think authentic.  He was a good sport too. Took a lot of ribbing from Howard Stern back in the day.

Yeah, seemed like a nice guy, and was a positive role model. His birthday was just yesterday.

We saw this coming, but it still hits hard for me, cuz she was near to my age... I admired her fight.

RIP

I've lost my dad 2 months ago to cancer. It's truly an awful thing.

I am profoundly sorry my friend.  Ugh.  That hurts.  I don’t know what to say other than I am so sorry.

Thank you so much. That really is enough. Means a lot, even if we don't know each other. I really mean it.

He played Doogie Howser's dad. He was also on Hill Street Blues. And of course he was the first captain of the U.S.S. Excelsior in Star Trek III.

Yeah I think most people would remember him from Hill St.  I remember when he showed up in Trek III, I was like, hey it’s that guy from Hill St. Blues!

I'm not sure why @Brando deleted the post, but I posted something about Mr. Fake, only to see a separate thread.

Yeah I posted about Douglass Fake then saw the thread was already made, I suppose I could've edited and linked the thread, but didn't think to do so.

I'm... I'm sorry, you said what? Bob Newheart? Yeah. Yeah. So what about him now? He's what? He's... He's dead. I see. Well... No, I see how that WOULD be very sad. I just didn't expect the message to say "Rest in PEAT." Yes? No sir, I'm not saying ANYTHING about your speech impediment. But now I understand what you meant about the geet flying south for the winter.

Last night, I listened to 'The Driving Instructor'.

Among the funniest pieces of comedy that I have ever heard!

There are some that will say that it's sexist, but, you know what? I don't give a single fuck :)

It's a product of its times. Take it or leave it, so there :P

Enjoyed him in Elf, and his recurring role in The Big Bang Theory as 'Professor Proton'.

And this Simpsons clip seems fitting -

Screw the player! Save the disc!

Reminds me of that anecdote Spielberg told about the Orca accidentally sinking while filming 'Jaws'...

They were scrambling to get the actors off the boat, when the soundman protested:

"Fuck the actors! Save the sound department!"

Is that in THE 'JAWS' LOG, by Carl Gottleib?

I must read that again.

It's been a long time since I read it, but yeah, I seem to recall that Gottlieb gave his own, perhaps less colourful account of that incident in his book. Spielberg mentioned it in Laurent Bouzereau's 20th anniversary documentary.

And Inside Jaws, but of course there Speilberg was being PG and said, "I won't say the word, but he said 'blank' the actors, save the sound department!"

He was edgier in 1995—before he became cuddly and grandfatherly, and began wearing flat caps and knit cardigans...
