Naïve Old Fart 10,241
It's true that producers don't get given as much limelight as directors or actors (heck, more people know the name Roger Deakins than they do Jon Landau), but that is not to dismiss what they do. I'm sure that Mr. Landau did a great job for Cameron, and his films, and he was well-rewarded with an Academy Award for TITANIC. What really saddens me is that he was only 63 years old when he died. Popular Post Chen G. 4,427
I too am much perplexed by the kind of nonplussed approach to the fact that the man was a producer. He wasn't some executive crunching budgets and schedules from his office (nevermind how important those could be to the making of a movie) nor a movie mogul, but he was James Cameron's producing partner. Even if weren't involved directly in any creative choices, the producer as the man in charge of keeping the production running like a well-oiled machine and giving the writer-director the framework within which he can create to the best of his abilities is surely an important aspect of Cameron's films, which have long been admired for their production value. This was a great man. Tallguy, Edmilson and MikeH
crocodile 8,372
RIP. This guy seemed very enthusiastic about his work, which showed by his frequent appearances in the bonus features (sometime as a host/narrator). He definitely did something right while helping Cameron execute is ginormous plans. 63 is way too young to go. Karol Chen G.

Popular Post A24 4,514
James Cameron: “The Avatar family grieves the loss of our friend and leader, Jon Landau. His zany humor, personal magnetism, great generosity of spirit and fierce will have held the center of our Avatar universe for almost two decades. His legacy is not just the films he produced, but the personal example he set — indomitable, caring, inclusive, tireless, insightful and utterly unique. He produced great films, not by wielding power but by spreading warmth and the joy of making cinema. He inspired us all to be and to bring our best, every day. I have lost a dear friend, and my closest collaborator of 31 years. A part of myself has been torn away.” https://variety.com/2024/film/news/james-cameron-jon-landau-tribute-avatar-titanic-1236061837/ Brando, crocodile, Chen G. and 2 others

Popular Post Andy 5,006
Thanks for the kind words guys. It means a lot. I’m lucky she’s doing well and cancer free for now. They found it early but it is like the most aggressive kind of breast cancer, so she’s always looking over her shoulder. And of course the side effects are brutal. But you know, tomorrow is her 60th birthday and we get to celebrate. And for that I’m thankful.
