As is likely evident, the first seven stills are from Paddington (dir. Paul King) and the next twelve are from Paddington 2 (dir. Paul King). Sorry in advance if anyone's webpage is crippled by the abundance of images.

These are super sweet family films told with great care and love, but also with IMMENSE creativity. At first glance, they would seem to be greatly inspired and influenced by Wes Anderson, and they certainly are! On the surface, they've got all the trademarks: overhead and tracking shots, extreme close-ups, loads of symmetry, whip pans, different aspect ratios, multiple "Let Me Tell You About My Boat"-esque sequences, stacked ensemble casts, etc. But I think what makes them so attractive and endearing is that they go beyond that superbly detailed whimsical style and reach the very hard-to-pin-down heart that makes those films so special, manifesting it in a way that is not just sincere and genuine, but also wholly unique!

Case in point, I love these warm and wonderful movies dearly, and I am very happy knowing that I can always resort to these to brighten my day. These aren't just comfort films...they're hugs.

Whenever I browse through movie screencaps I end up just clicking on the hot girls in the movie, and eventually it takes me to porn links.

Nahh but there were some good ones in there. Waterworld, The Shining, other horror movies, Eraserhead. Good screenshots.

"You, Mr. Beale, have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and you...will...atone!"

Owen Roizman's cinematography is superb!

Better than Supes The Movie? Isn't this against the rules of JWFan?

It's every bit as good as SUPERMAN, in its own way.

Merchant Ivory's Maurice! Sumptuous film.

They've done better...

A ROOM WITH A VIEW

HOWARDS END

THE REMAINS OF THE DAY

THE BOSTINIANS

HEAT AND DUST

SHAKESPEARE WALLAH

ROSELAND

...but, yes, MAURICE is a sumptuous film.

Only those fragments I could find on Google. There are so many more brilliant shots in it. Say about the film as a whole what you will (I think it's good a good enough story, a mostly passable script, and really lousy dialogue), but as far as direction, cinematography, editing, and scoring go, it's among the best of the best.

Howards End is all-time top 10 for me. Haven't seen Shakespeare Wallah or Roseland but I know those aren't as highly regarded as some of their others. Not every Ivory/Merchant is great. I think they were at their best around the early '90s.

Well, STEREOTOMY us my 3rd favourite A.P.P. record, so I'd take it :)

I only have affection for Edgar Alan Poe, I, Robot and Pyramid. All the rest are sell-outs, pressure from the label to be more radio friendly, commercial, soft, etc.

No love for EVE, or THE TURN OF A FRIENDLY CARD, Alex?

I always loved concept albums because the best of them transported me to different worlds, other planets. To me Eve was too earthly, just like women are, which is of course the concept of this album ;).

The 80s was Lumet's most interesting decade as a director, and Andrzej Bartkowiak shot almost all of his movies that decade.

I think most critics would say his best movies were made in the '70s, especially since Network is from 1976.

@LSH, the shot of Sarah, sitting on her bed, is lovely. Cameron should have left this whole scene in, and trimmed some of the action.

That's the problem, @Michael G..

TROS is all style, and no substance. Visually, it might be the best of the ST, but where is the emotion, where is the heart, and, more importantly, where is the brain?

Oh, the story is terrible, but you have to hand it to Abrams, the visuals are great. not the greatest, I would say, but good.

Its not much, but it’s something.
