Naïve Old Fart 10,864
It looks great, but it's lacking that extra "something" that made the previous Gleeson/Farrell/McDonagh collaboration so compelling. Nick1Ø66

Well, compared to the previous ones, it "lacks" the incredibly black, but incredibly funny, humour. But it doesn't look like it's meant to have it. It's intentionally a far more sober, dreary affair, and as such it works wonderfully, even if it doesn't make we want to watch it again as soon as possible. It's a shame it went up against Oppenheimer at the Oscars. It would have deserved its share of acting awards at least (and Gleeson at the very least really should have one by now). Marian Schedenig 9,463
Whoops, that's what I get for watching it so late (and not noticing that I followed the wrong IMDb links)… I loved Everything Everywhere…, but I'm not sure it deserved its acting awards over Banshees. Marian Schedenig 9,463
This has lots of excellently framed shots, but as usual, most of them aren't on film-grab: Bonus:

Popular Post Marian Schedenig 9,463
I love how much Branagh was able to get out of this rather small and straightforward role: It's interesting how the film doesn't try to hide its 2001: ASO influence and references not only the stargate visuals at the end of the "scientifically accurate" black hole sequence, but even the star child itself. Which also made me wonder (and then wonder why I hadn't wondered about it before): With so many films copying the 2001: ASO template, and many of them copying not just an idea or two, but actually *structurally* copying large parts of it - were Kubrick & Clarke really that original? Or did their film have similarly clear predecessors that I'm not aware of? HunterTech, Nick1Ø66, Raiders of the SoundtrArk and 1 other 1

Naïve Old Fart 10,864
Thanks for those, @Marian Schedenig. I don't care if it was demolished by critics and disappeared faster than the last packet of pigs in blankets from my supermarket on Christmas Eve (a true story!), I still want to see EMPIRE OF LIGHT. Popular Post Marian Schedenig 9,463
…and that's not half of the film's best shots, but it's all I could find online. Probably because of its box office failure and mixed reception, which I still don't understand. For me, it's probably a 10/10 film. The Big Lebowski is the only reason why I can't outrightly call it my clear favourite by the Coens. The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) Art Deco & Roger Deakins alone would make it worth seeing, but I love everything about it. Also, the stylistic parallels to Brazil and Monty Python (both The Crimson Permanent Assurance and this I believe) have always been obvious to me, but I hadn't always noticed the nods to Raiders and The Apartment (both pictured above) and I believe The Third Man (not in these screenshots).
