As I mentioned before, they had a little recording session after the Sunday concert, probably just for a few corrections and clean openings/endings to edit into the album versions of the cues. Looks like we're getting the original versions on the concert Blu-ray and the clean ones on the CD.

I compared the audio and the video. They seem to be the same recording. I think they indeed just re-recorded the parts that overlap with applause, or they edited them out. They did not correct tiny errors it seems as they are in both versions.

Is the Bluray version with the "Full Concert" a limited edition ? Best is to order now, or we can wait a bit (the release date) ?

The CD and blu ray come in the same package. There is no other version (other than the vinyl)

Should I wait until the Blu-Ray and CD set becomes available to order on Amazon USA, or should I order it now via the official website?

There are three different physical releases of the Vienna concerts, all three of them available for pre-order on Amazon.com:

CD (August 14)

Thanks for the correction and helpful links!

However, while they are listed on Amazon US, they are not available for pre-order (other than the vinyl version), at least not yet.

Indeed.

Another (minor) detail: According to the artwork currently available, the title of the Blu-ray is "John Williams Live in Vienna", while the CD and vinyl are titled "John Williams in Vienna".

Probably supporting that later recorded bits and bobs are used to cover up applause etc., therefore technically not making them strictly live recordings.

Is what in English? The track list and other info in the booklet/packaging?  Or their website?

Sorry, don't follow you.  How is that different than what I said?  I feel like I'm missing something.

If we are talking about the same thing, I don't think anybody on JWFan knows the answer to that question.

Hi-res version of the Blu-ray artwork:

And here's a CD cover different to the one on JPC.de and Amazon (from an English-speaking site):

I was referring to the Blu-Ray/CD set, and that includes the track listing and the Blu-Ray/CD packaging. If I order it directly from the website, is the set that will be delivered in English?

Okay. I was referring to not only the liner notes, but everything in the set: the Blu-Ray and the packaging. Is the concert and interview included in the Blu-Ray in English? I'm sure it is, but I wanted to get confirmation of that. Was Across the Stars originally offered for pre-order on that website? I have the DVD/CD set, but I ordered that via Amazon.

I've never ordered anything from an international source. I live in Boynton Beach, FL. What would the total cost of the order be if I were to purchase this directly?

Directly from where?

JPC has a link to a page with shipping information. You can use that to calculate the cost of your entire order, then simply add any potential import fees and customs taxes on your side.

But JPC is just an online media store like many others. The concert is released by Deutsche Grammophon and will be available in all the usual locations.

Yea I'm just going to order from Amazon US. Can't think of a reason to order it from anywhere else.

I can’t stop listening to this fantastic recording😄! I do agree with many people that it is probably the best recording there is, regarding control, phrasing, balance of sound and sound quality. Especially the unisono horn part at 2:32 (video) / 2:27 (audio) gives me chills.

There’s just one thing that bothers me every time I hear it, small but audible, which is the second flute coming in half a beat early on the G5 of the ostinato counterpoint 2:25 (video) on 2:20 (audio). I checked the score and there really should be a full quarter note rest on the first beat for tutti orchestra except for the melody played by the horns and trumpets (bar 60).

It doesn’t really affect the overal performance but once you hear this you cant unhear it (at least I can’t🙈)...

Yeah, I also noticed that, but agree, the performance is absolutely perfect otherwise.

The one thing that gets me is the late entry of the snare drum after the B section. It makes the music lack noticeably and it’s interesting to see how much the snare actually adds to that ostinato!

Menacingly slow?

The score asks for 112 bpm. Williams takes the Vienna performance on average at about 100. But you’re right it is noticeably slower but I think I like it. I listened back to the Dirk Brosse/LSO Royal Albert Hall performance of the March and it seems far too fast now in comparison, although at the time it was the best I had ever heard the imperial March performed

Only (little) thing that bothers me in the performance is that we can't hear the flutes entrance at 53 s.

Unfair! I got only €1.00...

€0.84 was my refund!

I suspect due to the timing of the order? Also, depending on what was ordered?
