John Williams & the Vienna Philharmonic: January 18/19 2020

So, my guess is that Anne-Sophie will join in and they'll play the Across the Stars versions of Hedwig's Theme, Theme from Sabrina, Rey's Theme and maybe Luke and Leia?

Anyone wants to speculate on possible encore pieces? Rise of Skywalker, perhaps, something else, Superman?

Raiders March, at least I hope for it.

But I'd be glad to watch him conduct anything, since I'm still a little bit concerned that this once in a lifetime event may get canceled at the very last minute.

The Imperial March will be definitely one of them.

Crazy to think this is basically only a week away. I wonder when Williams is heading over? I really hope he allows himself more time on the journey than 2018...

If it's his first time in Vienna I'd assume he'll do some sightseeing! Plus there's probably rehearsals in the days leading up to the first concert.

Hi everyone, first post! I’m going to the concert having managed to get tickets via the waiting list. But I now also have two standing tickets which I don’t need. Does anyone know how I can sell them?

For which concert do you have standing tickets?

There is a marketplace on this forum for selling your tickets: https://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/forum/15-the-marketplace/

If he flew yesterday the legend must be on European soil by now, no?

Well, depends on the flights. A quick search indicates you can't get direct flights from LA to Vienna so he probably went LA > New York > Vienna or LA > London > Vienna. Seems like the fastest possible flight (with a stopover) is ~14 hours and that's assuming he's not stopping elsewhere in Europe for a couple of days before heading to Vienna.

Either way, safe flying and good health to the Maestro! Hopefully that WaPo article wasn't lying around in the terminal before boarding. Seems funny nobody recognized him and snapped a photo in a terminal somewhere (unless he flew a private jet? I've always assumed JW flies commercially, albeit in business/first class).

I've been thinking about that myself. I've decided against actually organising & reserving

Well, I can fully understand - I just meant a place big enough for some of us to drop by for a drink. Something in Kärntnerstraße maybe (does Skybar still exist? bad example, propably) or in Mariahilferstraße - could be even the Starbucks there; our daughter would be all for it since we don't have one in Graz. ;)

Just a place where we know others would/could drop by after the once-in-a-lifetime-thing. We will have proper lunch in Museumsquartier before the concert, so it's not about dining, just socialising...

...any places that pop into your Viennese head now? ;)

We could then agree on that anchor place - anything else goes. ;-D

See you (soooon!)

Martin, Romy and...

...Lara a.k.a. Crudla a.k.a. Princess Layer a.k.a. Layer (in chronological order ;)

Since your old one actually says "cancelled", that one gave me a little jump. You should hide it using spoiler tags to make sure people read the text first.

Done...don't want to give any heart attacks to fellow JW fans

Living in Seoul, it honestly never occurred to me to make the trip over. Now with tickets available, I'm kind of wishing I had thought to go earlier. I am seeing Queen the same Saturday night in Seoul, so I'll have to be content with that. I think if this concert had been announced before the Queen concert was announced, I would have given going some serious thought.

When you think of it, is there any other real encore option that would have a place for Mutter's solo? Maybe it's a solution to how to get her smoothly back on stage for the end ovation.

One of the two Schindler pieces. And if the violin pieces stay in the first half of the concert, I'd expect the Mutter encore to be before the intermission.

You don’t think the encore will be something with a little more ‘gusto’, like The Raider’s March, Superman March or Imperial March... ?

Or do you think JW considers it too ‘low brow’ for the venue?

I would bet Mutter would do the violin heavy version of the Raider's March for an encore.
