SF1_freeze 131
How does that make any sense? Bloodlines is a sad try by the Lucasfilm Story Group to somehow try to damage control this trainwreck of a story and find any explanation at all for the stupid starkiller shot onto the New Republic Starsystem. It still makes zero sense. No sane people would station their whole fleet only in one system when there are 1000s of worlds in the galaxy!!! No government could work and function for 1000s of worlds when all military and governmental power is concentrated on only 3 planets. (its such a joke plotwise in TFA) This cant ever be explained at all because it doesnt make any sense. Popular Post Nick Parker 3,040
In The Last Jedi, you have a former iconic, legendary hero in seclusion because he was so harsh on himself that he considered his failure with his pupil so irredeemable that he believed any further involvement he took would lead a cycle of destruction and futility. So he did the right thing, in his mind's grandiose vision of the Force and its relation to the galaxy and its inhabitants. Through the course of the film, he realizes that after decades his head was still in the clouds, and that his failure was not an obstacle to being a hero but a natural part of it, and was something to accept and move forward with. In the end, he embraces his role as a legendary hero, his place in the present, and gains a renewed sense of optimism and purpose, showing that, to paraphrase Nichiren Daishonin, with one strike of light, a cave can be illuminated even after eons of darkness. If that's superficial and lazy, I wish more Hollywood films were. With that said, @SF1_freeze, I'm genuinely curious: why do you detest the new Star Wars so much? You have a problem with how they fit in with the past films and universe, which is a problem I have with The Force Awakens, for sure. Is that a really high priority for you? Do you find a lot of Star Wars fans to hold a similar view? Are there other major reasons why you dislike them? Gruesome Son of a Bitch 6,488
The Star War movies have never been anything more than popcorn space movies for adolescents. The prequels were bold but still didn't stray too far from this. I will admit that there are some very interesting scenes in Empire that don't jive with the rest of the saga, such as when Han and Leia are talking in a darkened spaceship with eerie blue lighting about Lando system and the performances are oddly naturalistic and the tone Ridley Scott Alien-esque. But that's an exception to the rule.

Except for that one guy's idiotic anti-male conspiracy theory. I challenge you to defend these arguments against the sequel trilogy... and link them to similar critiques of the OT: - The protagonist just knows how to do everything without struggling or failing... or any explanation why she is so powerful. (In TFA alone, Rey expertly flies and repairs the Millennium Falcon, resists Force mind probing, reads that person's mind, uses a mind trick on a strormtrooper, and beats Kylo Ren in lightsaber combat.) - The films lack a villain that is respected and feared. (Oh, no! Look! It's Kylo Ren. Talk about a man-baby! At the height of his power, Snoke was just 'killed' by Kylo. And Commander Hux was played as comedic relief in practically every scene.) - Little to no development of most characters in the second film. Please tell us the "rational explanations" why a Star Wars film released during Memorial Day weekend will not make a profit in theaters. I understand many aspects of film-making and can recognize a film bad film. I was just letting you know that Hamill had issues with the writing for his character. I have reason to believe that he would be more familiar with Luke Skywalker than Rian Johnson, who - let's be honest - was just some guy that agreed to do Kathleen Kenndy's bidding. 16 hours ago, Taikomochi said: I just think it’s a sad statement about the direction our culture has taken when people genuinely think there is some conspiracy between Kathleen Kennedy and Disney to attack Star Wars fans personally, and think it so loudly. It’s totally divorced from reality. It’s a series of pop movies about people with laser swords, and I say that as someone who loves Star Wars very dearly. Find something better to do with your life. You aren’t that important. It's not personal - it's business. And clearly Mrs. Kennedy thinks she doesn't need the fans. Our loudest voice now is not paying to see this new movie. I don't believe that Disney is "shilling bot accounts to brigade reviews" or "putting the squeeze on Mark Hamill like he has been taken hostage". Hamill abruptly changed his tune. Is this why you needed to put silly little me in my place? I know I should probably of asked my husband's permission to come here and speak my mind but seeing I don't have a husband to think for me maybe I should just put my trust in you for now. I feel liberated already knowing Canto Bight is nothing more than a Social Justice moment that has no place in a Star Wars movie. A MAN just told me that a Star Wars movie displaying a corrupt group of illegal arms dealers who are shown being apathetic towards a casino that beats animals and enslaves children for the purposes of forced child labor is nothing more than SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRING! How dare they? Does Kathy Kennedy not realize this is the type of moral judgement that makes men like Mattris uncomfortable? Or does she just not care? The blurred lines between good and evil are unbearable. I feel embarrased for having tried to think on my own when DJ said to Finn that good guys and bad guys are all the same. I never realized I wasn't supposed to try and read between the lines to recognize DJ was a morally ambiguous character whose so-called wisdom or mantra shouldn't be trusted. I am so glad that Mattris was here to correct my thinking on this. I now clearly see that Rian Johnson was using that moment to say unequivocally there is no difference between good and evil. But its not just the character who is making this argument, now is it? its the film itself that's making the argument. That's my biggest issue with the Canto Bight sequence: not that it slows down the pace, not that it stupid, not that the CG is bad (all true), but that thematically it stands outside of the film's plot. In fact, it doesn't have any one theme: its about animal cruelty, social justice, morality of arms deals. And because it attempts to rope in so many themes, it ends up being all but superficial in its communicating of all of them - all in the expense of what could have been used the deepen the film's overarching themes. As with the rest of the film, there is an evident lack of restraint here. More action, more characters, more twists, more runtime, more camera movement, more, more, more - its all just too much.
