Popular Post Kasey Kockroach 2,716 Posted July 20, 2018 Popular Post Posted July 20, 2018 I've witnessed a couple fine folks here gifting themselves a thread to call their very own. I dared consider myself to be possibly worthy of such an endeavor for my own selfish desires. I can vent personal woes, post drawings, talk about story ideas or particular characters! I dared to dream! But, how to commence? After all, if I am to prove myself worthy of a thread in my name, I simply must make a good first impression! I must answer the question as to whether my personality is compelling enough to warrant discussion in of itself! But, how to proceed? Post drawings? Tell the story of how I nearly missed work earlier this week because I spent the entire day believing it was Monday (my day off) when in fact that day happened to be Sunday? Gush on and on about how much I freaking love that addictive percussion in John Williams' The Lost World? Talk about my doggy and kitty? All of these options are so alluring, such potential within my grasp! But am I ambitious enough to attempt to realize this potential? Nah. So, here's some drawings of the character I've been drawing what's felt like nearly my entire life. The character that is my username, naturally. The drawings vary wildly in age and quality (ranging from "hey, this actually isn't hurting my eyes" to "OH GOD WHY WHY WHY DIDN'T YOU BURN THIS!?") as, well, again, I've been drawing him for as long as I've been mentally capable of conceiving a character and physically capable of drawing him. Pictured in a few of these is his (human) girlfriend Iris Out. You will see other characters here soon enough, including his arch-nemesis/best friend (it's complicated) Slam Wallaby, his adopted witch sister Nikita, Boober the mermaid, Earl Buzzard, and so on. Will, Sharkissimo, mstrox and 9 others 9 3
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 Nice work. Do you aspire to work as an animator/are you one already?

Nick Parker 3,049 Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 Do you have an ultimate career aspiration (yet?), Mr. Roach? Are the specifics/hoops of the animation/cartoon world not to your liking?
Kasey Kockroach 2,716 Posted July 20, 2018 Author Posted July 20, 2018 No ambitions (yet), just...living life, finding joys in the little things. Trying and failing to talk to girls. And as someone who's conversed with animators on a daily basis (including being friends with an animator who worked on things like Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat)...it's an ugly world. Not irredeemably so, just one that doesn't leave me eager to try and jump in, especially given the demand for Kasey Kockroach and friends has been consistently low in person and online.
Jill Sandwich 11,030 Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 I've worked in the media industry for almost a decade. It's not all sexy and exciting.

Kasey Kockroach 2,716 Posted July 20, 2018 Author Posted July 20, 2018 I'm content to just do it for my own kicks. I sure as heck recognize these things just wouldn't work in the mainstream. My sense of humor is too awkward an in-between "too childish for adults, too sick and pervy to be kid-appropriate". The characters are overall rather cute and there's a sincere bond and camaraderie that is the main five (Kasey, Slam, Nikita, Iris and Boober)...but Kasey and Iris are very clearly in a relationship despite being different species, and Slam and Kasey routinely make violent attempts to kill each other. Not to mention Nikita and Boober being an item, which would cause quite a ruckus since they're not only different species but both are of the female persuasion (Nikita's gay, Boober's bi).
Holko 12,019 Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 Exactly the thing Youtube or other internet groups would eat up with the right amount of exposure, even with some crude animation - or maybe especially? You wouldn't even have to deal with the bullshit of mainstream media. I may be a few years behind on getting the Youtube meta, but dumb little animation shorts used to be huge. But of course if it's the animation process itself that you're not interested in and you have no willing friends to team up with and co-create something like that, it's completely fine.
Kasey Kockroach 2,716 Posted July 20, 2018 Author Posted July 20, 2018 Even then, I'd need a writer/co-writer to help me make them, well, funny.

I regularly quote, "[googly flattered noise] tell me moooore about my eyyyyyyeesss" Sorry for shitty Youtube quality The inbetweening is awful in this one. It ruins the work of Bobe Cannon, Ben Washam and Rudy Larriva, makes the animation look all mushy and floaty. Only Ken Harris' work came out unscathed (Bugs singing King for a Day). But Maltese's script somehow manages to make child abuse funny as hell, so it's worth it. SHUT UP JUNIOR, CAN'T YOU SEE I'M THINKING!?
Disco Stu 15,517 Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 I’m no animation expert, I just know that one made me laugh and laugh when I was a kid. The voice performance for the mother bear is the best thing about it.

Kasey Kockroach 2,716 Posted July 21, 2018 Author Posted July 21, 2018 No, that's down the hall to the right. Ya can't miss it! Holko 1

Kasey Kockroach 2,716 Posted July 21, 2018 Author Posted July 21, 2018 I like Bruce Broughton's music for that show, and the They Might Be Giants music video they did. That's about it. It's at least less obnoxious than Animaniacs though.
Jill Sandwich 11,030 Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 I loved those 90s WB animateds though.
Kasey Kockroach 2,716 Posted July 21, 2018 Author Posted July 21, 2018 I like Freakazoid and Pinky & The Brain! The rest was phooey.

Disco Stu 15,517 Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Yeah Animaniacs is great. Tiny Toons too but not as great as Animaniacs. After school staples of my television diet as a kid, along with Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, Bonkers, etc. Jill Sandwich 1
Kasey Kockroach 2,716 Posted July 21, 2018 Author Posted July 21, 2018 Shame they couldn't use Bernadette Peters more often. Busy lady and all that.

Kasey Kockroach 2,716 Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 Uuuugggh, I hate my handwriting. Almost as much as trying to squeeze words into drawings properly. Hopefully this isn't hard to look at. Also couldn't decide which was the better camera take, so here's two versions. Holko 1

Jill Sandwich 11,030 Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Ah, because left-handers like yours truly usually have shoddy handwriting. I'll post a sample later.

Holko 12,019 Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 I could read it fine. Granted, I'm accustomed to reading bad handwriting since at times I can't even read mine. But yours is not bad. Kasey Kockroach 1
