Nick Parker 3,040
4 hours ago, Alan said: For JK Rowling nothing about Potter should be considered educational. She describes Potter as stories from the playground, not the library. She was apparently concerned that the point was to teach children about the orchestra or something along those lines. Is that why the students in the series never learn anything useful about the world outside of flying brooms? Jurassic Shark and Alan

crumbs 14,306
Hey @mahler3 what are you referring to at 38:30: "I love the edit in the film when suddenly the clouds part, straight into that cue, brand new material altogether." Are you just referring to the Quidditch cue in PoA being completely different from the first two films, or is there something totally new on the LLL? Other than the new introductory cue that precedes it, I mean (Page 384).
Popular Post TSMefford 1,509
Utterly fantastic. I’m going to have to keep all these interviews somewhere to come back and listen to them. Those alternates that are previewed have certainly sealed the deal for me as far as what I’ll do when I get the set. I’m definitely going to give this several listens from beginning to end. This is so exciting. Tomorrow folks! I’ll share my unboxing photos and then I’ll probably be out for the week experiencing this. I’ll come back and share my thoughts with you all though. I’m sure we’ll have wonderful favorite hidden gems to share and discuss. Once, crumbs, Alan and 4 others 6
Popular Post bollemanneke 3,342
I liked it, but also thought a little too much music was included. His stories about the liner notes and 9/11 are amazing, though. They have to release the recorded tea breaks. Popular Post Holko 9,516
Another great and informative episode. Possessing common sense, the rights issues around 5+6 weren't exactly clear to me - they're with different companies or studios, but what's stopping say LLL from licencing both out from their respective owners in a deal that allows them to be released on one set? Technically they're already doing something similar with the released v unreleased tracks, no? crumbs 14,306
I skipped New Broomstick, didn't want to spoil it. It's the last cue in the set! Nice to have an explanation about all the third act Azkaban cues in the additional music section -- some OST tracks didn't feature the ticking clock while the film equivalents do, so both are included for completeness sake. Bravo. Mike's reasoning for including the alternate finale was fun. He just happened to find it in the sessions and didn't know why it existed, but it made a great final track for his assembly. Sadly no mention of finding any other major alternates in the sessions like Train to Hogwarts v2, First Frozen Lake, Remembering Mother, a different Harry & Sirius chat (partly included on the OST?), etc. Once and TSMefford

Were there many cues in the sheet music leak that Williams never recorded, if you're prepared to divulge? It seems like he thought up the WTTP theme quite late in the process, or used it very sparingly in the score and Cuaron asked him to use it more. Either way, so glad he had the chance to integrate the theme deeper into the score because it's incredible. I especially can't wait to hear the rendition in Harry & Sirius' chat. 6 hours ago, Disco Stu said: I believe you'll find that's 28. Trailer 1:52 D'oh! Right you are. Popular Post Jay 37,346
I listened to part 3 of the interview yesterday and loved it! I really enjoyed all the music played too. Some of the same ground was covered as what Mike discussed with David Collins over in that podcast, but there was so much more here, of course mostly concerning the Harry Potter set. It's pretty remarkable that a big director like Cuaron took the time to speak with a producer of a specialty market score album at all, let alone for an hour! I think it shows how important music in general is to him, and certainly was with this film and score. The 9/11 aspect and how it affected the recording sessions is pretty interesting, and something that had never occurred to me until Mike was telling me about it when he was working on the liners. The quotes he got from some musicians about it that are in the booklet are pretty interesting, especially the part about what else was going on in Abbey Road that day. Tim does ask Mike about the prospects of handing more Potter scores beyond the initial 3, so tune in to hear what he says about that!
