The THE BANGLES Thread

The bass is really prominent in this video of the song, even if overall quality is poorish. You can really get a sense of the richness of Steele's tone and her little rhythmic quirks.

Will there be any videos of the concert?

Quite possibly.  Fans have made some cell recordings of their most recent concerts (they do about 2-3 a year at this point.)

I know that one!

Sorry, Steve, but I'd be more interested in seeing P.I.L.

They did a little (mostly acoustic?) concert a couple of nights ago at the Grammy Museum in L.A., but without drummer Debbi Peterson.  She lives out of state, so maybe she found herself unable to make either event.

Great stuff:

Besides for that microphone squeak in 2:29, I would say not bad at all.

The Bangles's first LP, All Over The Place, turns 35 today!

A review I posted over on the Pop/Rock thread:

Here is the album insert:

I can imagine quite a lot of "inserts", with those.

The recording is rough on this Velvet Underground cover, but Susanna's voice here is rather stunning, very natural.  This is before she changed it for the more piercing 80s radio friendly approach she is known for.

It has finally gone online!

Definitely hope it will grow in the coming weeks and months and increase awareness and knowledge of the band, as well as a place for fans to hang out and discuss the band.

Wishing a Happy Birthday to Michael Steele!

Here is a playlist with some highlights of her time with The Bangles.

The first eight tracks are all her lead vocal tracks with the band.  All, with the exception of "September Gurls," were written by her.

Walk Like An Egyptian features her singing a verse, and "Let It Go" features her as a co-writer.

The rest of the tracks highlight some of her best basswork with the band, and some of her best backing vocal efforts, with most tracks featuring both, really.

From their great filmed '86 concert in Pittsburgh.  They are all on pretty good form here, especially
Steele who navigates a pretty intricate bass line rather seamlessly with her lead vocal, while having a nice little dynamic with Susanna during the instrumental bridge and at the end.

Really needs to be remastered and re-released.

It is a great photo.  I've got to try to find who the photographer was.

Debbi shining up there, Susanna's eyes, Micki in the shadows, very cinematic, actually.

On this day in 1999, The Bangles reunited on stage to perform some Beatles songs at The Hollywood Bowl in front of an orchestra conducted by Sir George Martin.

Funny how they pictured Steele just like Steele.

A playlist I created featuring the most rock-oriented tracks in the Bangles catalog. Meant to be played on shuffle, as I did not really arrange the tracks in any way.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've started a Bangles Song by Song Thread over on another board if anyone wants to check it out.  I will try to update it daily.
