Popular Post Omen II 1,235
Many of the major orchestras in the UK announce their concerts for the 2019-20 season around this time, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia. I am excited to see that there will be a live to picture performance of William Walton's score for Henry V on 7th November this year. Frank Strobel will conduct the Philharmonia, one of London's finest orchestras. Henry V The film and score are both bona fide classics, so this could be really good. Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more. Yavar Moradi, Incanus and SteveMc 2

Marian Schedenig 8,191
That's cool. Not enough to get me to fly over yet again though. I'd really like to see the suite performed more often. The one with choir. In the prelude.
Yavar Moradi 2,593
Awesome. I'd be even more excited for Patrick Doyle's Henry V performed live to picture though, I gotta admit... Yavar
Jurassic Shark 12,051
I'd love to catch Henry V with Walton magnificent music played live. One of the best scores ever, in my opinion. Naïve Old Fart
Popular Post Omen II 1,235
This was brilliant. I had never seen the film all the way through before so it was a great opportunity to rectify that as well as to hear William Walton's magnificent score. The original soundtrack was performed in 1944 by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Muir Mathieson, while this evening's performance was courtesy of the equally talented Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Frank Strobel. The Crouch End Festival Chorus sang the various choral parts with great aplomb. The Agincourt battle scenes owe a lot to Alexander Nevsky, both visually and musically, which I thought was rather nice. The programme notes here are well worth a read if you are interested in the film and / or the score. Also I was sitting at the same table as film composer Nigel Hess in the Riverside Terrace Cafe before the concert started. I was eating soup while he was eating crisps. Truth. No, as I did not want to Badger him while he was having his tea! Besides, my soup was not going to eat itself. When I told my brother afterwards he said I should have spoken to him, as it is probably very rare that anyone recognises him. Oh well.
