Sunshine Reger 3,711 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Besides a few other minor collaborations and misc productions where someone else picked the composer, Spielberg has been a Williams-total for quite some time. I wonder whom will he work with after Williams passes away or retires definitely.
Ii2 210 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Spielberg without John is Speilberg without Spielberg. He'll retire Marcus 1
KK 3,310 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 He'll probably just swing from one composer to the next, depending on the needs of the project. SteveMc and Cerebral Cortex 2

JoeinAR 1,956 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 No one. He will whore his scores out. It certainly wont be that composer giacchino. Not Mr. Big 1
Jurassic Shark 16,256 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 He'll just do silent films. Sunshine Reger 1
Kasey Kockroach 2,687 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 He won't use composers anymore, he'll just insert pop songs into the proceedings.
Bilbo 4,268 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Random hookups. Hopefully Giacchino is never one of them. Not Mr. Big 1

I would be kinda down for Spielberg to do a soundtrack score tbh. Although he can be a little, erm, "basic" with song choices. I think he might also just end up doing more dramas with no/minimal score.
Jurassic Shark 16,256 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 He'll just re-use JW cues, played backwards.
Jurassic Shark 16,256 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Who are we kidding? JW will probably outlive us all, not least Spielberg!
JoeinAR 1,956 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 I want to emphasize that Steven Spielberg has never collaborated witn Michael Giacchino in his primary role as director. He has never pulled that lever.
Score 775 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 I think he will just ask to different composers for different projects, without having a new "go-to" composer. Of that list, Silvestri and Newman could be among the possible collaborators. I hope for Don Davis, but I don't think it's likely...

The Illustrious Jerry 3,361 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Randomly, but I voted Silvestri because I feel that he might be a tad more likely than anyone else. Ii2 1
Yavar Moradi 4,293 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Why isn't David Newman an option on the list?
Oomoog the Ecstatic 314 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Nobody I care about. Have to say, I dislike the majority of film music, but John Williams is an exception. Would've been nice if JW, Spielberg, and Bruce Broughton collaborated more. Bruce Broughton is a good composer. Marcus and Yavar Moradi 2
Popular Post TheUlyssesian 2,696 Posted April 4, 2019 Popular Post Posted April 4, 2019 He WILL have a go-to composer because he repeats his film-making crew all the time. He does not like jumping from collaborator to collaborator. I think Silvestri is the default choice. Like Williams - he can jump from drama to action/adventure. Gia has yet to score a good straight drama for me. Ditto Powell. JNH is another one. So I think it would be between JNH and Silvestri. The Illustrious Jerry, Jurassic Shark and Sunshine Reger 2 1
Naïve Old Fart 12,786 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Hopefully the little Muppet will stop making films, soon, and put everyone out of his misery. 3 hours ago, Fabulin said: Whoever compiled this list, forgot POLTERGEIST.
Muad'Dib 2,026 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Is Blackhawk even on the table? A Zimmer-Spielberg collab would be wonderful. Jurassic Shark 1

Thor 9,343 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Christ Almighty, is it at all possible to have a serious discussion about this? A million replies, and all of them goofy jokes.... It would have been very interesting if he reverted back to Billy Goldenberg -- Spielberg's regular collaborator before JW -- but he's 83, so I doubt it. I think he will continue doing what he's done so far; use various composers of the big 80s and 90s generation, tailormade for whatever project he's doing -- like Alan Silvestri, Thomas Newman and David Newman. In the 90s, when Zimmer was involved with Dreamworks, Spielberg said that he would be a likely collaborator in the future, so there's that. I would love to see and hear a Spielberg/Zimmer score. JoeinAR 1,956 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I would rather not ever hear a SS zimmer or giacchino collaboration. I do like his trying some of the competent composers.
Popular Post #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,052 Posted April 5, 2019 Popular Post Posted April 5, 2019 Gia hasnt proved he's got what it takes to take over from Williams. Not Mr. Big, Bilbo, JoeinAR and 1 other 1 1 2
Bespin Copilot 10,672 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Spielberg should stop making movies if JW can’t score them, that’s simple.

JoeinAR 1,956 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 There are plenty of better composer than Z or G.
John 2,033 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I imagine Spielberg would go for a more “prestige” composer in Williams’ absence. Maybe Thomas Newman or Silvestri. JoeinAR 1
pete 1,313 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I'll do it for free. I'll have to learn how to compose music first though.
