Roger Deakins

Indeed. And very artistic minded or picky when it comes to what projects or which people he wants to work with.

Not heard of The Goldfinch before but I'm definitely looking forward to the new Sam Mendes movie 1917. When Deakins was asked if it was all one shot, he said he wasn't allowed to comment on that.

The Goldfinch looks beautiful, but I heard the film is a turd. Looking forward to 1917.

But yes, he is indeed the master.

How can someone or something be overrated?  You know better than the countless others who rank his work at the level they do?

Yes, that's it. You rank it differently than common consensus. It's a perfectly fine sentiment to have, although you can't convince me that it's applicable to Deakins.

Oh Brother Where Art Thou?

The Man Who Wasn't There

A Beautiful Mind

Intolerable Beauty

House Of Sand And Fog (hated that one with a vengeance)

No Country For Old Men

In The Valley Of Elah

The Assassination Of Jesse James (a personal favorite)

Doubt

Revolutionary Road (a personal favorite)

The Reader (but I think I flicked it off after a while)

Roger WEAKins. Man that guy is so overrated. firstly, his job isn't that hard: 1, 2 buckle my shoe. Check your lightings and angle, experiment with different shots in your spare time, give the film a flowing theme. Tie it up and do your job proper! I would pay this guy with popsicle sticks.

@Alexcremers

Alex, darling, DEFENCE OF THE REALM is one of the best British political thrillers of the 80s, featuring a great central performance, by Gabriel Byrne.

I like HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG.

The collaboration that Deakins had to have, to get 1984 to look like it does, was breathtaking.
