Williams to co-conduct St. Louis Symphony, November 1

Both the violin and flute concertos were both 'originally recorded' by the London Symphony Orchestra in 1981 and was originally released by Varese Sarabande on LP/Vinyl in 1983 and, later, on CD.

However, the violin concerto was premiered by the SLO in January of 1981

After the Williams concert on the November 1, the Violin Concerto is on Saturday and Sunday Nov 2 and 3 with the Nov 2 concert being streamed on radio online:

Here's the full program which is a nice combo - another great American composer (Barber - popularly known because his music was used in films) and a modern (in the post-Romantic era sense) French composer with Williams listed without apology right alongside for one of his concert pieces. Presumably, this is the revised version of the concerto.

Barber’s Adagio has moved audiences in movies such as Platoon and Amélie, and Saint-Saëns gave “everything I was able to give” to a symphony of truly cinematic scope.

This is mostly the same program Denéve conducted in Boston a couple of years ago. Exception is the Barber -- in Boston they performed Higdon's Blue Cathedral.

I'd love to hear "Blue Cathedral" live!  Most of the recordings I've heard just don't get loud enough for the fine details near the end.

Williams looks so smart! Definitely will be wearing that in Wien.

Nice program, too!  I'm intrigued about the so called “Symphonic Suite from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”. Never seen the ET themes presented in this fashion in concert, I believe.

The three movement suite was performed once at Tanglewood, back in 2011. Starts with "Three Million Light Years from Home", the second movement "Stargazers" is the same arrangement recorded by Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops. The final movement is the regular concert version of "Adventures on Earth".

I’m not sure I understand the distinction you’re making?  I think the film version of Bike Chase / The Departure (I’ll exclude the The Escape for a direct comparison) is an obviously more satisfying standalone composition than the concert adaptation.
