Is there anything great missing from the OST?

Yeah, the score itself is 75 (?) minutes long and some some things on the OST are not film versions (Escape from the City). Oh and the narration from the OST needs to go.

But the main reason is listening experience. It's much better in chronological order. It's like MR in that respect. Good score, not so good OST.

And I want Woods Walk in good quality!

I would love a proper WOTW release, too.
Among other things, I was disappointed to hear how The Reunion was presented in the OST.
I prefer the piano part in the film version.

And yes, as much as I like ASMR Morgan Freeman, narration bothers me a lot while listening to a soundtrack.

My new JW holy grails:

Star Wars prequels

Star Wars sequels

Indiana Jones

JFK

War of the Worlds

Born on the Fourth of July

Nixon

The Patriot

What you've done there is define JW grails as 'all remaining important JW expansions'.

You have to choose one!

Catch Me If You Can? War of the Worlds?

Catch Me If You Can because it was the 3 films Spielberg made in a row, all about protagonists on the run from something.

Although arguably AI/MR/WOTW is a trilogy of its own (Spielberg/Williams exploring very dark science fiction ideas).

I'm still keeping fingers crossed for WOTW. But that's a 2005 score recorded in LA....

Karol

WOTW has been confirmed as "safe" from those union fees changes, because they came into effect late in 2005 after WOTW was recorded (but it sadly means Munich and Memoirs are a no-go zone). So theoretically nothing's stopping LLL from doing that expansion, except JW and SS's approval (and I can't see any reason why they wouldn't rubber stamp it, especially considering the session leak).

Yes! That annoying cut ruins the cue on the session leak.

I think the biggest question about a WOTW expansion is how on earth Mike manages to convince Williams to include 4 alternates of the one cue (Reunion in Boston). I can't think of a single MM expansion where Williams allowed more than one alternate of the same cue. I'll be interested to see how Mike tackles that, because I doubt Williams will allow 4 different versions in succession for listening experience reasons.

Well, you can have several holy grails. These are mine. It's not like I listed every JW score that remains to be expanded....

For example, I didn't mention CMIYC, The Terminal, War Horse, The Adventures of Tintin, The Book Thief, The BFG, Angela's Ashes, Amistad, etc.

Doesn't that kind of negate the premise of using THE (singular) holy grail as the metaphor?

There was only one correct choice in The Last Crusade!

When we talk about the holy grail or holy grails, it's a metaphor. It means a thing or things which we eagerly and passionately want or wish for.

Indy wasn't looking for any metaphors, but the actual thing, THE Holy Grail. :D

The Gospel of Matthew (26:27-29) says:

And He took A cup and when He had given thanks He gave it to them saying "Drink this, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."

Emphasis mine

Minority Report (Expanded Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by John Williams: The LLL 2 CD set is a wonderful complete presentation of this neo noir thriller score by the inestimable Maestro. If you are looking for dark brooding John Williams mixed with intense modern kinetic action and suspense and some sweet melancholic melodic interludes look no further.

I got mine today. This is the first time that I have heard the entire score outside of the film. Having had the original soundtrack album until the announcement of the definitive release, I can say that the remastered sound is phenomenal. The clarity and impact of the Maestro's music stand out in great detail. I am really glad that Mike Mattessino is the Maestro's personal soundtrack archivist and remaster specialist. The liner notes are very informative and detailed. An excellent read. I never expected that Minority Report would get the definitive treatment so soon. I cannot wait to see what score of the Maestro's gets the definitive treatment next. This is phenomenal.

The alternates are a great and interesting listen also, particularly Anderton Escapes (Alternate Segment). Very interesting and cool.

I'm pretty sure the script to The Last Crusade isn't in the bible.

Maybe the real Holy Grail was the friends we made along the way.

The restored OST edit of "A New Beginning" doesn't sound great by comparison; I can hear a bit of degradation there and it's obviously not a remix

When you say it's not a remix, you mean you think Mike restored the original OST edit and so did not reconstruct it from the sessions masters?

Nice pic! Where's your JP collection, though?

I have my entire JW collection locked up in a big wooden drawer, not displayed out on a shelf. I'm reconsidering...

I have questions regarding the track listing for the score:

8. Sean’s Theme 1:58
9. Minority Report 6:31

Are they part of the score (end credits)?

And what is the difference between the additional:

17. A New Beginning 3:29

And the track from the 2002 album release?

Is it a new Alternate version of "A new beginning"?

There is no info on the track

Cheers

Sean's Theme is an alternate of the New Beginning (film version). It has been just sequenced between the shorter film version of A New Beginning and the end credits on this release, perhaps because it is so different take on the same finale (part of it is actually used in the film at the end of Thought Transference and Finale) and because Sean's Theme and Minority Report are featured in the end credits of the film.

The track titled Minority Report is the original intended end credits suite.

There is not much difference between the OST version of A New Beginning and the one found at the end of disc 2. It is basically just the latter half of the end credits suite presented on its own.

It sounds to my ears like that, but maybe Jay can confirm from MM? His technical note gives that impression (based on similar situations in other expansions). Maybe there's a reason, or it actually was remixed from the 16-track multis and that's as good as it gets with the aged analog tape. I'm really glad the restoration of "Sean's Theme" turned out so well, on the other hand, as it's still my favourite cue/piece. It sounds fully restored from the multis and like brand new.

My collection is all over the place. Most of my JW (OSTs and/or expansions) is in a 53L (14 US gallon) Rubbermaid Roughneck. I've been on the move most of my life and most of overall collection stays in a bunch of those. I keep some on Ikea shelves near my computer (the pic), some near the stereo in our living room. Whatever I've wanted to play for my wife, kids, guests and/or haven't imported yet. Boxsets and vinyl on a bookshelf in my bedroom. My dream is to settle in one home with custom shelves for the whole collection, all formats, in one room. One day!

Hmm i listened to it but I'm not sure it's standing has vastly improved with me. The sound quality is great though

When I first listened to this sometime in 2002, I was less than impressed. I was like, WTH is this? This sounds nothing like Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, or even Schindler's List!

17 years later I finally get it. Year after year, it would grow on me. And now I count Minority Report among JW's finest efforts!

Speaking of the movie, is it true they changed the color grading in the BluRay? I loved how desaturated it looked when I first saw it in theatres; this was my reaction when the 20th Century Fox logo appeared:

What I read was that they applied a bleach bypass filter for the theatrical release which was present on the initial DVD release, but then they made a new 4K master in 2009 that didn't do that, and that master was used for the Blu Ray.

Ditto. As the Maestro says I have been too busy with work and life to retool. I am what you might call an antediluvian.

I recently put on a series I had on DVD, because I bought it back in the day, and it was extremely noticeable just how different it was - grainy, blurry, lacking definition etc. I used to have a dedicated blu ray player, but my PS4 and Xbox one do the job!
