Lady Dimitrescu 9,117
Move The Simpsons to ABC? So what was the point of buying the Fox Network in the first place if all its aired content will just be moved to Disney's own network anyway?
mstrox 6,992
I don't see it. They own both networks, so there's no real reason to move it from where it's successful. They could only lose viewers by moving it to a new network.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,488
Disney bought Fox so they could take it's property and make it their own. Of course they are gonna move successful IP to their own network.
mstrox 6,992
But FOX IS their own network! They own both ABC and FOX. They only stand to lose by messing with success
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,488
The Simpson is just a small step in Disney's grand scheme to own all content. Have faith! They know what they're doing.

Disney bought most of 20th Century Fox's assets -- but not the whole thing. Fox corporation still owns their broadcast network, Fox News, Fox Business and regional sports networks. Everything else -- film and TV production, back catalogue, facilities like Fox Studios Australia -- are Disney's now.

No. Paramount distributed Marvel's completed films for a 8-10% fee, which made it easier for Disney to buy them out. They did not co-finance them like they did with Titanic. (Otherwise Par would still be involved.) Yet Paramount still collects 8% of the profits from The Avengers and 9% on Iron Man 3, so their logo isn't going to be wiped from the early MCU films any time soon. Bart and Lisa have the same VAs since season 8 or 9, I guess, and Marge is the same person, Selma Lopes, since basically the beginning of the show. She is on her 60s right now, and the Homer VA is much younger, which makes their scenes as a couple very weird and unintentionally funny.

I must be the last guy on the planet who thinks the Simpsons is actually still going strong. The recent episode with Michael Rapaport guest voicing as the intern was great! I like how he kept mispronouncing Simpson as "Simpsons" and the one-off jokes landed fine (Homer saying with modest pride that his sixth nuclear accident was why all those horses went bald was hilarious). Forget trying to compare the show to its early seasons. Nothing on television (let alone the Simpsons itself) will ever match the Bill Oakley/Josh Weinstein/David Mirkin showrunning era. That was lightning in a bottle. Compare instead the last 5-10 years of the show with its true nadir (2001-2005) and you'll see it's gotten way better since then. mstrox

Edmilson 9,446
There's some episodes of the early 2000s that I really like: Bart to the Future (the one where Lisa is president of the United States, and that generated a lot of memes saying it predicted the Trump election), Kill the Alligator and Run (when the family travel to Florida), Behind the Laughter, HOMR (on which Homer discovers there's a crayon inside his brain), Parent Rap, Homer the Moe, She of Little Faith... And also the movie, which came out in 2007 and I really like it. But yeah, most of my favorite episodes are from the 90s too: Marge vs Monorail, Deep Space Homer, Homer vs City of New York... Arpy 4,162
Disney is beginning to go down a very dangerous path with its newfound power. Imagine in the future when Disney's dominance is all-encompassing and their streaming service is the only one which future generations will be acquainted with, and episodes, seasons, films etc. are all purged from history without any democratic process or deliberation. No one has DVDs anymore, or any way to play them and the state propaganda is all they will know. Yeah, it's their platform and service so they can cut what they want, but why not let the viewer decide for themselves? Why must we be told 'no, this is bad!' like we're children? mstrox 6,992
True - there's also an edited scene in Fantasia. Some of the stuff on Disney+ has a content warning - a lot of older Merry Melodies and Mickey shorts, Peter Pan, etc. The other stuff, they're just leaving off. Again, the Simpsons thing had nothing to do with Disney, though.

Disco Stu 15,504
I don't think it's outside of the realm of possibility that they might fix it to maybe give you the option for either 4:3 or 16:9. Especially in these early days when they'll be hungry for positive headlines. Didn't I read somewhere that FX added the choice after at first only streaming them in wide?
