Jay 37,280
Quote BANZAI! RELEASE #2! THE KARATE KID - 35th ANNIVERSARY: LIMITED EDITION LLLCD 1520 Music by Bill Conti Limited Edition of 3000 Units RETAIL PRICE: $19.98 La-La Land Records and Sony Pictures proudly present the re-mastered reissue of acclaimed composer Bill Conti’s (ROCKY, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, ROCKY BALBOA), original motion picture score to the beloved 1984 classic THE KARATE KID, starring Ralph Macchio, Noriyuki “Pat” Morita and Elizabeth Shue, and directed by John G. Avildsen. Previously out of print, the legendary THE KARATE KID score returns, sounding better than ever - with all-new packaging featuring a cover illustration by artist Paul Shipper commissioned for the film’s 35th anniversary. The new, exclusive liner notes by Al Kaplan, include new interview comments from composer Conti, along with an introductory message from star Macchio. As with the film itself, Conti’s wonderful and perfectly-pitched score stands the test of time. It’s the film’s musical heart – beating with drama, excitement and inspiration to spare! Produced by Neil S. Bulk, mixed by Michael McDonald and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this special limited edition CD release of 3000 units was sourced from studio vault elements and is expanded with additional music tracks, including the composer’s score for the film’s final fight, which was unused in the film. The high-kicking art design is by Dan Goldwasser. Banzai! TRACK LISTING: The Film Score 1. Main Title 3:36 2. Fite Nite 2:01 3. Bumpy Ride 2:12 4. Dan Ducks Out 1:00 5. Bonsai Tree 0:45 6. Matt S. 492
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one! I never picked this one up in all the years it was available from Varese...I have parts 2 and 3, but for whatever reason never got around to picking up the original. No mercy! Edmilson 7,380
So, one of the 2 or 3 Sony releases that survived?
Jay 37,280
No! Sony the film studio and Sony Music the record label are unrelated. Yavar Moradi

Thor 7,462
It's a fine score. I have (well, had, before my hard drive crash last year) a digital version of the score as it was presented in the old Karate Kid box from a few years back. The score is short enough to sustain its C&C presentation, and I had -- in fact -- intended to insert the essential songs as well, but never got around to it. Maybe I'll get a new chance with this. This is obviously steeped in deep, deep nostalgia for me -- as it is most people my age.

Jay 37,280
But the Hook OST was released by a label owned by Sony Music. Karate Kid is fine because it's OST had no Conti score on it, so Sony the film studio still owns the rights to the entire thing. So, this does not take up one of the slots for the two scores LLL worked on and that made it through this Sony Music catastrophe. Therefore, still 2 Sony Music scores coming and either could be Hook. Brando 1,848
I’m thinking about buying this and maybe the sequel scores to take advantage of the 25% off sale and that 1 is about to go OOP, anyone have any thoughts on the presentation?
Yavar Moradi 2,583
I went ahead and included it and Karate Kid II in my own order. Will probably get the other two later but these were the two films in the series I have fond memories of from growing up. I remember people being really positive in the FSM thread when this came out. Pretty sure it's a decent improvement over the Varese. Yavar Brando

I can't comment on the packaging, as I never got it physically. But I got a digital version. Despite the film being such a huge nostalgic favourite of mine, and the score excellent, I found the presentation (predictably) too long, repetitive and aimless on occasion. However, I've whittled it down to a great 36-minute playlist that also includes the three best songs at the end. Now it works like gangbusters. Obviously, if you're a fan of the film/score, and since the OST was a "songtrack" without any score cues at all, the LLL is the way to go in any case. Same goes for the sequels. Stark 310
I believe the LLL editions are all definitive, though I don’t own the first one. Brando
Section31 0
Can anyone comment on the sound quality of the LLL versions compared to the Varese set? Just wondering if others have found it to be worth an upgrade.
