Guest macrea
Doug Trumbull, who worked on 2001, hired Dykstra as an assistant, but I don't think it was until after that film. They worked together on The Andromeda Strain and the Trumbull-directed Silent Running.
moldovia 0
Yeah Trumbull was offered the fx job on SW but turned it down and suggested Dykstra to Lucas I believe.
JoeinAR 1,949
No Morn 2001 was nothing like Star Wars special effects wise.I tend to think that 2001 has better effects than Star Wars.NeilIt does. The film still looks amazing in every aspect. And quite a bit beefier in content than Star Wars too. No wonder so many directors call it the best sci-fi ever! The best thing about Star Wars is the music.Alex - who now understands what Williams meant when he said Star Wars will do well with kids on a Saturday matinee.Didnt Lucas himself say on the commentary track that the approach to Star Wars' effects were lots of cheap lo-fi effects with quick cuts instead of expensive effects ala 2001?no, the effects were state of the art in 1977 and look better than the new stuff today which looks flat.
