Lurker 5
Can it really be considered "a boot" if all of the music has been released legitimately?Neil
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
A 2 CDr set comprised mostly of music ripped from a DVD isolated score track is VERY definatly a bootleg.Stefancos- who has created several of these bootlegs
Marian Schedenig 8,191
Well....Marian?I do have a track listing, but the question is if it fits the boot in question....anyway, it's mostly anagram stuff, will track titles like Incorporating Reich really help that much in this case? Stefancos- hoping to get the complete boot soonSoon. Very soon.Marian - who watched Reloaded yesterday and loved it.
Oskar 77
Well, this is in no way the correct tracklisting since I was not able to find any on the net, so I just came up with track titles myself for the boot. THESE ARE NOT THE REAL BOOTLEG TRACK TITLES, I just used the DVD and my imagination to think of some track titles so I had something to put on the CD back cover.Maybe someone has a more accurate list?DISC ONE (50:14)1. The moment you decide to sell and profit from this disc is the moment it becomes a bootleg. Right now, it's part of a private collection. And since Marian made the disc for himself from materials that are legitimately available and in his collection, this falls outside of a bootleg.Look at it this way, those Bond albums that I resequenced and re-edited are they bootlegs? In some cases they contain material from other albums that I incorporated into them. If I were to profit from them, they'd be bootlegs, but I'm not selling them. They are for my personal use only.Neil

fommes 153
Thanks for the help! And this bootleg discussion, maybe it depends on whether you see an isolated music track on a DVD as an official release of the score or not. If you do, then I have to agree that it's not a bootleg, but if you don't, I think you can consider this as a bootleg, since there is no official release of the score on CD.Or am I completely wrong here?Anyway, thanks!Lotman
Marian Schedenig 8,191
Of course it's an official release....the DVD was officially released by a "real" studio. You can go to a store, buy it, and listen to the music. It's definitely no boot and no promo. Marian - wondering what self-made CDs from an iso score passed on to a friend who does have the DVD with the iso score would qualify as.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
I dunno, but please ponder that moral dilemma AFTER you send me the boot. Stefancos- who's ISP was ofline most of today.

Morn 8
The moment you decide to sell and profit from this disc is the moment it becomes a bootleg.I don't think it requires making a profit, but the moment you start to give it to others who haven't got the DVD it's a bootleg. I mean, it's not a CD and was made into a CD from another source.
Lurker 5
How is it a bootleg? Was the music acquired illegally? Nope, it's all been released by the studio. When duplicates are made and sold, that's when the real problem begins. And you are allowed to copy media for personal use. Marian is allowed to cut up the isolated score and make his own expanded album (complete with goofy title names ). What he can't do is distribute it for profit, which I don't think any of else would do. Now if Marian had somehow made this without the tracks being officially released, this would be another story.Neil
stewdog1 50
I agree with Neil, but I also feel that if you receive a "private collection", or "bootleg", you should at least own the OST or DVD that it came from. That way, the composer or artist will receive at least some sort of financial gain from it.

I agree mostly except I think they don't even need to make a profit. Just distribute it to others. I'd say that a DVD rip you distribute to others is a bootleg. If it were just a copied offical CD into a CDR being distributed it would be a pirated CD, because this would be a DVD rip converted into CDR and distributed it's a bootleg.
