Thor 7,504
The Danish National Sympony Orchestra (the orchestra for their national broadcasting corporation) seems more versatile than our own equivalent, and they're known for their ingenous film music performances, especially those by Morricone. There are many great videos by them on Youtube; enough to get lost in. Would have loved to attend one of their concerts at some point.
Naïve Old Fart 9,528
They seem to have as much fun playing, as I did watching. Well done, @thestat. More, please.

Thor 7,504
Yeah, lots more. I've been following them for years now. They're very good at nailing the idiosyncracy of whatever piece they're playing, while at the same time adding interesting new interpretations. For example, their BLADE RUNNER performance is about the only time I've heard that particular music work well in a more acoustic environment (even if it's augmented by synths). Usually, performing Vangelis with that set-up is impossible.

TheUlyssesian 2,478
She seems normal here. Why was she so melodramatic at the Oscars? Because it was the Oscars? Tydirium
Tydirium 1,167
Yeah, I hardly recognized her at first in this because of that.
Quintus 5,399
Personally, I think the excellent Film Symphony Orchestra version (in their suite) blows every other recording away, even Goldsmith's original. Naïve Old Fart
thestat 348
Quintus, no. While the general orchestral Jerry stuff is done fine, that's not the point here. Every orchestra (well, not EVERY) can pull that off. The genious of the DNS is that it deals with Jerry's synths in a similar way to Goldsmith - a bit like what Leigh Phillips does. They sound identical. I do not know how old you are but I have had to put up with endless variations on Jerry's Total Recall theme (Silva even with fucking Ford Thaxton could not get it right) and that's not even a complex electronic component - it was a running joke in the 1990s and 2000s that no one could get even the opening synths for Total Recall correct. The fact that DNS can do Gremlins 2 - a much more complex synth score than Total Recall - is astonishing. It means we can get lost Jerry scores re-recorded. Even Diago Navarro was unable to pull it off, and he is fucking great: And whatever the case with the action stuff the awesomeness of Total Recall is this - and there is no way anyone can ever replicate this masterpiece. This is the Mona Lisa of film music: Marcus and Naïve Old Fart

Their performance on Jane Antonia Cornish's Island of Lost Souls was impressive and they nailed the difficult counterpoint lines. They give London and L.A. musicians a run for their money.
