Popular Post 1977 1,743
New bonus feature from the forthcoming digital release of The Rise of Skywalker: The Maestro’s Finale – Composer John Williams reflects on his body of work for the Star Wars saga and shares insights on scoring Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Disney is set to release the Rise of Skywalker Blu-ray on March 31, with a digital release on March 17 https://www.slashfilm.com/rise-of-skywalker-blu-ray/ Note that this is a digital exclusive, it will not appear on the forthcoming Blu-ray releases. Popular Post Bellosh 3,407
The irony of that being a digital exclusive for the film score fan base that still purchases and relies on physical cds. rough cut 1,714
It’s the same kind of perplexing reasoning as with the Alien 40th anniversary shorts that Universal produced, and then, when the Alien 40th anniversary 4K was released, they’re not included... No wonder physical media is dying.
DrTenma 116
I hate they do this and don't release this things in physical. I'm sure they have space in the Blu-ray. In any case, will this be available at Disney+? I doubt it but it could be a good selling point of their streaming platform to add all these exclusive content there too. SilverTrumpet 638
I mean, you also have to consider they didn't bother putting the isolated score track on the blu ray. That was the last time I was getting bamboozled by their home media releases.
mstrox 6,651
My understanding with the isolated score is that Johnson requested it but it was "too late" to get it on physical copies. It looks like the discs come with a digital copy anyway, so if you buy the disc you'll be able to see it.

Daisy hanging with John, John back behind the piano, John personally playing some of the music he wrote for Daisy's character, etc. This just warms my heart. Popular Post Falstaft 2,132
Purchased and watched through Amazon prime. Among the things that are included: *Footage of Williams, Spielberg, Hamill, Kennedy, Sandy Decrescent (I think) and other musicians interacting at recording sessions *Williams talking about matured Rey's theme, redeemed Ben's theme, Leia and Emperor's theme coming back *Williams talking about reviving "Yoda and the Force" (which was music editor's idea) *Williams playing Rey's chimes for Daisy Ridley at piano. FWIW this in the same key, same tempo as the version in 7m38/"The Force is With You." *Some cool older footage of recording sessions from previous movies Tiburon, crumbs, Smaug The Iron and 1 other 3

Popular Post crumbs 14,306
A revisited/matured Rey's Theme now the trilogy is finished would be glorious, in much the same way he revisited Han Solo and the Princess during the sequel trilogy. 8 hours ago, Cerebral Cortex said: Would be cool if we found out this was played by Williams here: That was my first thought when I saw that video, @Falstaft's analysis confirms it in my head. Makes total sense that JW wanted to play that section himself (one of the few moments the score is allowed to shine in the mix, also). It would be cool to think he played a small section on all 3 films in the ST (we know he played the Long Goodbye cameo for TLJ too). crumbs 14,306
Anyone else notice they recorded Princess Leia's Theme (potentially with choir, judging by their presence) during the TROS sessions? That never showed up anywhere in the film. Potentially an alternate for her death or maybe an alternate credits suite? IIRC they also recorded a section of that concert suite during the TPM sessions, which also went unused. Cerebral Cortex and Will
