obiwan71 26
Right now, I just hope that the Maestro remains in good health in those turbulent times. As for the concerts scheduled for the rest of 2020, I'm being really pessimistic, even for the Bowl shows I wanted to attend next September. I still have a great trip planned to the USA next August, but already think that I won't be able to travel from Europe at that time (August 21st). Customers' reports show that American is starting to cancel flights from Europe for July and August! Depressing.
crumbs 14,310
It's more important that Williams self-isolates and avoids contact with other people right now, especially with the outbreak totally out of control in the US. This virus is seriously life-threatening for people in his age bracket with existing health issues.
Bespin 8,480
I'm getting very tired of this virus. All our lives can't stop like this for months and months to come. And what it does to cultural scene is even worse. I think some labels and orchestras will have to move quick, the next concerts have to be broadcasted online or just recorded without live audience. It's not so complex to organize, all cultural events just have to become like porn movies: test every "players" before, then record the performance. If we don't do this, I'm afraid we'll never see concerts anymore...well not until 2022 or so. The industry have to move quick, the governments will not save the cultural industry, it have to find solutions by itself.

Bespin 8,480
Well I think it will cost less to our governments to pay tests to their population, so they can WORK, instead of giving them checks to stay at home to do NOTHING. To save the cultural industry, we have to stop to think what the AFTER will be, we have to think WHAT TO DO NOW.
Marian Schedenig 8,192
The cost should be the least of the problems if (!) governments act accordingly. The fact remains that tests aren't yet reliable enough and test coverage (if enough tests are available to begin with) would yield so many false positives that the health care systems would be in worse shape trying to cope with all the "false" patients than they're now. Bespin 8,480
We have 45 minutes tests, soon we’ll have 15 minutes ones, it’s just a matter of time. We need solutions now.

Marian Schedenig 8,192
When Williams supposedly announced last year that he would retire after TROS, I wonder why he didn't just plainly tell us what he clearly knew already: That Corona was coming. Martinland 359
It is beginning to look like this will turn out to be a historic year as far as Williams and film music are concerned: He will have celebrated his amazing debut in Vienna. And that will have been the *only* concert for all of 2020; plus: we have been *extremely* lucky to have had that at all! (a window of three months only!) Or is Milwaukee (see above) still on? Unlikely now. (and better not to be attempted by the Maestro, I dare say) No script doctor could have written such a tale of triumph and defeat (and victory again - because the maestro seized the day and put the time to good use - he is amazing in that way; I was just depressed a lot of the time)... P.S.: Morricone has left us too this year.

I check all the information regarding Williams' upcoming concerts on a regular basis. As of today (July 29, 2020), he's still scheduled to conduct in Milwaukee (October 10), Philadelphia (January 26), and New York (January 27), regardless of the possibility that any of those performances will be canceled/postponed. Any official (or even rumored) cancellation will be reflected in the first post of this thread as soon as it's announced. I can't afford Vienna, or Los Angeles, but this looked like finally the perfect opportunity for me. I have had a difficult last few years and this felt like the universe throwing me a bone, and not a bone saw. But instead I get to be anxious and upset with fomo, what a year. Taikomochi 1,136
I just received an email that the Cleveland concert, which was indefinitely delayed since last April, is completely canceled now. I could have requested a refund, but I figured just donating the money to the orchestra is probably what Williams would have preferred.
