Just do this: Indy V will be the final movie in the franchise whose protagonist is Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford.

Of course, Disney will want to explore the franchise as much as they can, so on the fifth movie they introduce a new hero. Could be Indy's teenage granddaughter, played by Hailee Steinfeld.

So, for the final film with Ford, go with John Williams. And, for the next movies on the franchise, just go with Powell. Williams will help writing a theme for her, but Powell will do the rest.

A literal passing of the baton, both in the franchise and with the music.

Sounds good.

Except for one thing...

That would put the setting in modern times for the soft reboot series.

But I like the period in the original films.

Adds such a nice bit of extra flavour!

How about setting it all in an alternate dimension?

Where historical progress has been substantially slower?

Or something more like steampunk/Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow?

Indiana Jones + mobile phones just seems... weird.

Well, the YOUNG INDIANA JONES bookends with George Hall as Indy are placed in the early 90s. Still more or less pre-cell phone, but about as contemporary as you'll get. But otherwise, I would be surprised if they made an Indiana Jones series or film that took place in contemporary times. The period aspect is such an integral part of the whole concept.

I want Zimmer to score it so we get at least two movies. The theme will be suggested slowly, then the character needs to earn the theme. His Batman and ManOfSteel music are excellent templates for the exciting future of the IJatCU.

Just take inspiration from the games. The Uncharted and Tomb Raider franchises are set on modern times, and it doesn't feel weird at all.

I like how they still featured a period plane in Uncharted.

In fact, pretty much the same plane as in the "Tales of the Golden Monkey" TV series.

But if Indiana Jones is going that way, couldn't it just as well BE Uncharted or Tomb Raider?

What would remain as the unique selling point?
